A Question For Dancers Past And Present
Never practice for a Soul night, just like do my own thing The only thing i do have to practice in dancing, especially if im taking a medal exam or doing a dance exibition, is my Lindy, Jitterbug, Jive, Bal Boa, Charlston Latin American & Ballroom ............because these dance's have many many steps My partner Ian says he used to have a bit of a practice for a Soul night when he was a youngster, but not now. The Cairn Hotel, Harrogate. 18Th Sept
I was lucky enough to win these in the raffle at Ian & Clare Gee's annual fund raising event in Chesterfield. Unfortunately we cant make that date , so therefore im putting all 4 for sale here , in the hope that somebody will kindly buy them and ALL proceeds will go straight back to the chosen charity (Leukemia research) of the Gee's Face value of tickets are £7 each, but i will take £25 for all four , plus i'll include first class postage. This is for a fantastic cause, so anyone in the North (or beyond) who would like 4 tickets for this fabulous event, please get in touch and help raise a few more quid

Dance Moves
Being on the 40s & 50s Rockabilly scene, i do see a few moves that are quite close to some of the dance moves at the Soul clubs Boppin a style from the 50s, has a few moves like Stomping, i have found that i can mix the two at a Soul night I have a video of Josephine Baker from the 1920's, & in her show she was spinning & jumping into the splits.............another act from the 20s called The Dodge Twins combined Tap Dancing with spins & splits Even Teddy Boys of the 50s were always including backdrops in there style of dancing Lindy from the late 30s-40s include Charlston steps from the 20's....................so i think it would be hard to say where a certain style came from or who was the first to do it.................as dancing started way back. But i do like to watch a good dancer of any era Debbie x

Memories Of The Casino
I only went a handful of times, but one memory for myself is when a good friend of mine (still on the scene but very much into modern), was hassled by the fuzz in the toilets. it eventually surfaced that he was indeed a constable of the law himself (only 18 at that time) . they then proceeded to tell him that it was his duty to inform the local cops that anything untoward going on in the building should be reported to them... immediately! last thing i remember from that incident, is when a big rush of lads bundled into the bogs and we legged it back into the main hall and carried on with our night . Not to mention coming back in a Triumph Dolomite firing on 3 cylinders whilst driving in pea soup fog with only the cats eyes to guide us. then the look of horror on our faces as we passed a cop car at speed with no visibility, not sure who was more surprised, us or them Another 'funny' moment is when a few of us from Grantham went on the coach trip from the Brit club (Nottm) to an oldies anniv i think. jonathan organised it i believe. making our way up there in a blizzard, i remember seeing a sign that stated we were'nt too far away from our destination, when the coach driver took it upon himself to pull off the motorway to find a phone box. off he went. then 5 mins later he got back on and told us all that his boss had ordered him back because of the snow and that we would be heading south instead of the few (about 12) miles to Wigan. Well with that, a big Notts lad walked to the front and told him in no uncertain terms that he had a choice......... either carry on northward or "one of us lot will drive the effin thing" . we got there not long after. The things folk did to get there! IAN

Children At Allnighters
I have seen a few youngters/teens at Soul nights wearing the bags etc.................& i don't think they would wear them unless they were happy to do so, young teens can be quite sure of what they want to wear...........i know my parent's used to have a fit when i was a teen, especially in what i walked out in (No comment's Ian like............what's new ) But one parent approched me & asked if i would make her a circle skirt for her young 6 year old but i refused! This is only my opinion, so no offence intended............but i thought that was a bit too much Debbie x

Children At Allnighters
Im sure these kids were younger than 13? and it was the afternoon, adult time is after 9/10pm Ken Hi Ken, the kid's looked about 7-9 & it was way after 10pm A few folk did'ant look too happy about it! Debbie x

Children At Allnighters
I totally agree with Imberboy I don't want to offend any parent's who have children, so this is only my opinion.....................but when i go out, i just don't want children around me, one venue i went to a while back............the kid's were running around & pushing into people, sitting in the middle of the dancefloor & just getting in folk's way, while the parent's just left them to it I would just like some adult time when i go out!
