  1. It has to be The Deadbeats-No Second Chance, "Who do you think you are, you get no second chance!" I think thats the line i used on my ex husband!
  2. A Mirwood white label copy of Bobby Garretts-I cant get away for £5, I was also given some original Wigan Casino patches & vintage circle skirts that were worn to the Casino by some very very very nice friends!
  3. you will find 'Roxy' Rob at any notts area venues on a weekend (cant miss him, he dances like a demon ) he can also be found as a seller on ebay "roxyrob" https://myworld.ebay.co.uk/roxyrob&ssPa...:MEFSX:SELLERID
  4. in all honesty, i see this happen regardless of venue. time and time again venues are let down by poor PA systems and even worse EQ settings. sorry to go off topic a little but can you promoters/DJ's whoever sort out the EQ? cymbals are recorded onto the master tapes but i can never hear them coming out of speakers . same goes for string sections, tambourines etc. most seem to be all bass and mid frequencies, give em some clarity, get the high frequency horns above head height, keep the bass on the deck IAN (sound engineer and drummer in bands) p.s. rant over pps Grosvenor rooms have a stonking clear PA
  5. its in my sig below... a line from "just a litle misunderstanding"
  6. make it £3, thats what i paid for it

  8. if i play my copy of Frank Beverley on the 'Sassy' label at a local soul night, will i get condemned to hell because its not original ?

  10. i just say 60's and 70's uptempo soul, yanno, like 'sweet soul music and baby love'

  12. I heard "I love music" at the casino, a fine record in my opinion. also remember hearing keep on running (spencer davis group) in M's .
  13. i find you quite offensive my friend. firstly i am not an 'oldies only' type of guy. i have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music. having played drums in a few bands over the past few years i consider myself very open minded about all types of music! when it comes to the music of our scene, theres only one type for me - SOUL. i dont care if its 60's , 70's or anything else, its about the content. as for pop shite, i think you'll find that has been played at just about every venue i've ever been to in 31 yrs of frequenting soul clubs. I also firmly believe that the 'Northern' scene could do without the ultra modern stuff that i've had to endure over the last few years (just my opinion). as someone said a few posts ago...... keep that in a back room (or the local night club) I dont usually say my bit on forums but some of us actually like/love classic uptempo 60's rare soul, im one of them! it bugs me that folk slag off the nostalgia thing, i enjoy a good oldies night, kingsway hall, grosvenor rooms, kings hall etc etc all play lots of quality tunes. i also visit plenty of 'across the board' nights and let people enjoy whatever kind of music is played. if i dont like a certain tune, i dont insist the DJ removes it from the deck, i live and let live. i'd also like to say that a huge amount of 'oldies' really get on my nerves, whether ive heard em once or a thousand times. lets just enjoy what we like, if we dont like certain aspects of the northern soul scence then dont indulge. as people say, "there are many styles to suit many tastes" p.s. i will be wearing my baggies tonight at an 'across the board' night.

  15. well if the above is true, it looks like Russ wont be doing 'the 36th'. Blackburn appeals to me, but how can it be a celebration of the Casino with a room playing 'jazz funk anthems' ??

  24. Saw both of those, Maze in 1984 & 86 (Rock city Nottm/Hammersmith) and Anita Baker (NEC) about 89/90. Not even in the top 10 of my 'best' live acts! If we're talking Soul acts : Edwin Star, Gene Chandler, Eddie Holman, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Chuck Jackson, Jnr Walker, Major Lance etc etc. And the Winner is.............. Jnr Walker Squeeze and Bowie were damned good too
