It has to be The Deadbeats-No Second Chance, "Who do you think you are, you get no second chance!" I think thats the line i used on my ex husband!

Original Vinyl Only ?
in all honesty, i see this happen regardless of venue. time and time again venues are let down by poor PA systems and even worse EQ settings. sorry to go off topic a little but can you promoters/DJ's whoever sort out the EQ? cymbals are recorded onto the master tapes but i can never hear them coming out of speakers . same goes for string sections, tambourines etc. most seem to be all bass and mid frequencies, give em some clarity, get the high frequency horns above head height, keep the bass on the deck IAN (sound engineer and drummer in bands) p.s. rant over pps Grosvenor rooms have a stonking clear PA

- Unbelieveably Played At Wigan
I heard "I love music" at the casino, a fine record in my opinion. also remember hearing keep on running (spencer davis group) in M's .- Wigan 36th Anniversary At The Grand Arcade
i find you quite offensive my friend. firstly i am not an 'oldies only' type of guy. i have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music. having played drums in a few bands over the past few years i consider myself very open minded about all types of music! when it comes to the music of our scene, theres only one type for me - SOUL. i dont care if its 60's , 70's or anything else, its about the content. as for pop shite, i think you'll find that has been played at just about every venue i've ever been to in 31 yrs of frequenting soul clubs. I also firmly believe that the 'Northern' scene could do without the ultra modern stuff that i've had to endure over the last few years (just my opinion). as someone said a few posts ago...... keep that in a back room (or the local night club) I dont usually say my bit on forums but some of us actually like/love classic uptempo 60's rare soul, im one of them! it bugs me that folk slag off the nostalgia thing, i enjoy a good oldies night, kingsway hall, grosvenor rooms, kings hall etc etc all play lots of quality tunes. i also visit plenty of 'across the board' nights and let people enjoy whatever kind of music is played. if i dont like a certain tune, i dont insist the DJ removes it from the deck, i live and let live. i'd also like to say that a huge amount of 'oldies' really get on my nerves, whether ive heard em once or a thousand times. lets just enjoy what we like, if we dont like certain aspects of the northern soul scence then dont indulge. as people say, "there are many styles to suit many tastes" p.s. i will be wearing my baggies tonight at an 'across the board' night.- The Most Unlikely Situation Where You Have Heard Northern Soul?
here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY5SvS2IrFA...feature=related- Wigan 36th Anniversary At The Grand Arcade
well if the above is true, it looks like Russ wont be doing 'the 36th'. Blackburn appeals to me, but how can it be a celebration of the Casino with a room playing 'jazz funk anthems' ??- Old Monsters
ok im calm now ! back to the thread. a song ive not heard for a long long time and i dont think will be revived (prove me wrong) was the one and only:- Cody Michaels = seven days fifty two weeks blimey when did i hear that last?- Wigan 36th Anniversary At The Grand Arcade
we'll be wearing ours at the Torch reunion too. back to the thread, anyone got news about the 36th yet ?- The Northern Soul Track You Hate / Dislike
I walked away .......... i wish he would! cant stand it also I'll hold you (Frankie n Johnny)..... bloody awful whilst we're at it, that other THING , How can i ever find a way (Carol n Jerry i think) ... arrrggggghhhhh- Old Monsters
dunno about 'not heard for years' but the song i wish would disappear for a hundred years is "I WALKED AWAY" can't stand it !!! . whilst on the subject, Frankie and Johnny I'll hold you can scuttle along with it into a black hole, bloody awful. p.s , Carol and Gerry too- Northern Soul 'urban Myths'
funny that. I heard 'Its too late' by bobby goldsboro was a soul record too- Northern Soul 'urban Myths'
i heard that 'nine times out of ten' was the B side of the Irish eurovision entry from around 68...... sounds about right- Dancers Over 50
Pete (casper) is early 50's. he can move a bit.... he won casino 35th in grand arcade. good lad!- Your Northern Soul Ringtone
send me your email and i'll send you an appropriate MP3- Best Live Acts................eva
Saw both of those, Maze in 1984 & 86 (Rock city Nottm/Hammersmith) and Anita Baker (NEC) about 89/90. Not even in the top 10 of my 'best' live acts! If we're talking Soul acts : Edwin Star, Gene Chandler, Eddie Holman, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Chuck Jackson, Jnr Walker, Major Lance etc etc. And the Winner is.............. Jnr Walker Squeeze and Bowie were damned good too - Unbelieveably Played At Wigan
