  1. well, until he tries to clean them all with glass cleaner......
  2. Who does the other 45 release of this Clarence Reid track? Maybe on a Stan Lewis label (Jewel/Ronn/Paula)??
  3. Kris Holmes replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
    nope
  4. ah, maybe not worth the getting to the Jungle then at the moment no portables at Amoeba really pisses me off, also they seal a lot of their 45s & the most expensive sealed one I bought there last visit was cracked when I opened it back at the motel, that place can suck it. Last Bookstore was ok, I got a few things, but as you say, cheapies. Maybe Rockaway but they are even more hit or miss..... LA is vultured out.
  5. Record Jungle is the best spot in LA at the moment, you gotta drive a little way though. But in general the private contacts are where it's at in LA, the stores get hit too hard. Amoeba et al I always find a bit underwhelming for soul 45s.
  6. Website updated: So, after four years of research, letters returned to sender (opened), phone calls which were answered one day & then the next day dialled again to find the number disconnected. At least two mysterious contacts from people telling me that if they told me the real story I was not allowed to share it online & then only went silent. Through several dead leads in several southern states (Florida/Georgia/Carolinas/Mississippi/Louisiana) & up north to Chicago. I would imagine that Henry/Reginald/Lynn/Hines/Williams or whatever other names he uses/used is probably dead. But still the records keep being discovered. Just added two more to this behemoth: https://greenvilleandbeyond.wordpress.com/artists/lincoln-mills/ https://greenvilleandbeyond.wordpress.com/artists/rev-lw-williams/ Anyone able to put me in touch with John Anderson, I'd love to get some recollections from him about any dealings he had with this back in the day?
  7. this record is pretty hot right now & hasn't really been a 20 quid record for a long time (unless you are lucky to have acquired it for that in the last couple years), it's gone over $300 a couple times the last 12 months or so. I'll agree the $500+ is crazy though but that's sometimes the upside of a strong list & Jason did have a strong list up. Gets people all riled up to bid......
  8. I don't think it will go that high.
  9. ah, just got these in the post today but The Sharpees 45 is a mispress which plays The Valdons 45 instead, pressing plant fail. have emailed about a replacement. the other stuff is great though!
  10. saw this on the weekend, did not hate it.
  11. Jazzman did a legit lookalike before the OSV issue even, so these & the film soundtrack issue give you at least 3 choices of legit reissues. spoilt for choice?
  12. I got asked to throw something together for a friends mix series, so I did a gospel soul/funk mix showcasing some records I dig & some I made. 15. i think there are more than four known copies. cool 45. the lookalike reissues (both with & without the light in the attic logo) are legit & done by light in the attic. apparently pat still has 2 copies, one nice & one thrashed. i love the song. so this is considered an oldie as someone mentioned up thread? there's also a vintage mispress with the correct labels but which doesn't play "little love affair", real disappointing to find that variation.
  16. thanks, didn't know where it belonged since it wasn't a radio show exactly
  17. So we throw this party every few months down here. last night someone recorded my closing set. 18. It's a great album. love it.
  19. Dante Bollettino was busted for pressing & selling bootleg Jazz 78s in NYC back in the early 50s on his Jolly Roger label.
  20. Kinda confusing with someone mentioning a (new to me) third variation. Anyways, the info George posted about the Musicol & Rite pressings is spot on. They are both legit from 1970 & for whatever reason different mixes. We may never know which of the two was first, unless one puts all their definitive faith in the March vs May pressing plant dates. The Musicol press I have came out of vintage stock from a vintage store in Pennsylvania & it matches the Musicol press of the Joe king on Prix exactly which I pulled out of the Vegas (March->Giattino) stock when I tried to complete what I needed from that label not so long after it all surfaced. I forget whether it came from Price or Beter to March or whatever but that doesn't really matter nowadays. One of the label owners anyway. Out of all that stock you'd have to be pretty retarded to bootleg that title out of all of them, so if they did bootleg a third version (which I've never seen) then that's real dumb & doesn't make sense considering there were more than enough legit copies in that stock to last at least a decade of redistribution (remember this started hitting collector circles back in about 2001 before it was even onsold). Stuff like Ice Cold Love on Tammy (as an obvious example) which was cleared out well early on would have been an obvious better bootleg choice than some Eddie Ray which still had boxes of copies left. Just doesn't make sense.
