Barbara Lynn Demo - I'm A Good Woman
yeah, definitely a fair few label variants on this, I can't tell which came first or which is rarest so I tend to treat them all equal as far as price goes. The Fryers 45 is a different mix of the same take.

that is pretty ridiculous

Solomon Burke On John Manships

um, you guys do know that that label variation of the demo is an alternate take only available on that format right?

Album Only D.j.'s - Are There Any Out There ?
similar to what chris said above, something that always bummed me out about LPs is the amount of wasted space or weight if you're gigging with them. carrying a box of "one trackers" on 45 rather than LP is much more attractive the older you get. i mean, one could pack just 4 Kent sampler LPs & rock the party but at that point, what is the point? one might as well bring their laptop or CDs instead.

Album Only D.j.'s - Are There Any Out There ?
I have a few thousand LPs but never DJ with them as far as soul or funk goes. DJing Jazz I have done LP sets in the past.

Ebay Insanity
yeah, he definitely has mint records on some stuff, but I get your drift, it can be gruelsville to browse his stuff being a condition freak like I am. He manages to get good prices for his stuff, people check his lists pretty religiously so more power to him if the bidders are not caring about condition.

Pitching Up
"the pitch control is your friend" I have no trouble pitching stuff up or down as required. Recently I've been pitching down Len Barry "Funky Night" to -8, grooves a bit better.

What Else Is There That Sounds Like This?
I know I have other 45s with this vibe in my collection & there are probably others out there in the world which I don't have but i'm drawing a blank at the moment & it's driving me crazy. So please recommend some stuff so I don't have to flip through thousands of 45s in my collection trying the find them.

Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
maybe, but the AC Jones 66150 wlp I have is vinyl pressed at Monarch on the west coast. could be an anomaly though as I guess no one knows for certain.

The Undisputed Truth - (Artist Of The Week)
think I just got rid of nearly all my UT 45s because I figured they weren't that good & didn't need to keep them. the only ones I kept were "You've Got The Love I Need" & their version of "Ball Of Confusion".

Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
66179 California Suns is the latest one I've found which has both promos. Have yet to find any with both stock variants.

Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
Just did a search through some earlier titles & the O'Jays "I'll Never Forget You" on 66162 is the earliest example of the new promo design to come up. Out of interest, Canada seems to have used the black/pink/white stock label for longer on their releases as well. A title like Cher "Bang Bang" on 66160 has the green/black stock in the US but the black/white/pink in Canada.

Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
I don't know which is best, I think from memory there are a mix of styrene & vinyl on both designs. I just checked the other O'Jays one you mentioned & you're right, it has the same variations. Must have been a pretty long changeover period. I have not seen the other stock variation (black/white/pink) on either of the O'Jays doing a quick search so maybe they were just pressing promos at a couple of different places & one place had more of the black/white labels than the other. Who knows for sure though?

Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
Liberty period dude, it's right there.
-
Imperial Demos - White & Multi-Coloured
how it works is the black & white ones correspond to the first lot under the Liberty ownership. The stock labels for these are this: The promos this: The green & beige ones come partway through the 661XX series. Stock it's this: Promo it's this: Of course with any label change over there are probably records appearing on both variants around the changeover period. Such as:
