Wes Lewis' Best Years Of My Life'
Folks First became aware of this Sam Dees penned wrist slashing opus via Mr Pearsons invaluable Soul research mag aka 'Shades of Soul' in 1996 and eventually got a rather ropey tape with it on to satisfy my hunger (thankfully refosoul refreshes the parts tapes cannot reach these days) Does anybody know if it ever came out on an album, or is it a 45 only affair? Expensive I assume? Ta Jim.

Richard Searling To Quit Smooth Fm
A great shame, not sure the show was ever the same when it all became 'Smooth', all rather watered down and more 'commercially viable' I suppose for the new owners. Prior however, it was a different kettle of fish, the likes of Dean, Mr Godin, Ady, Mick Smith Andy Rix, Arthur, Sam, Nancy Yahiro, Tim B, Ralph Tee and of course Ian L and lord knows who else playing some of the most obscure and tremendous music on the planet every Sunday was an education turning me onto the whole soul spectrum. Still listening to those tapes now! Thanks Richard. Jim

James Conwell Lp
I think the reissue was a 'legit ish' affair from the land of the rising sun, about 25 nikka. As for the kosher I've seen it anywhere from 25 to 125 (?). Was the label set up by some shady accountant as a tax scam or some such? Frank Dell elpee also. Great music. Jim

Tim Brown Talks.........thru His @rse
[ Do wish Tim would stop writing to us as if he is lecturing us from "on high", he doesn't know it all, and he certainly, like the rest of us, doesn't have all the records. A bit more humility wouldn't go amiss now and again. Hear bloody hear. Jim

Tony Drake
What a record. Seem to remember reading somewhere that the song was originally intended for Jackie Wilson, who wasn't that partial to it, the backing was recorded in Chicago and Tony's vocal added in NYC at a later date. Altho' I may be talking bol?$ there Cheers Jim

Dave Evison Is God
I vividly remember first hearing about Dave when he wrote the sleevenotes to 'rare soul uncovered volume 1' as a spotty teen in 1983 or 4 just starting to discover this music. Writing a succinct few paragraphs on the rare soul scene is difficult, but he managed it with aplumb, if you've got it you'll know what I mean. Then of course came the sleevenotes to 'The Northern Soul Story vol 1', as above. However, Gt Yarmouth 1991 both his spots in the 'Northern' room and on the radio showed da man got taste and he introduced me to a wider appreciation of black american music, eg TJ Williams, Channel 3, Dena Johnson.. REGARDLESS OF PRICE. Thanks Dave. Jim

Up The Junction Info Plse
Daft this, but we were living about a mile away at the time and it's always been a constant annoyance to me I missed out! !! (As I was a bairn) told you it was daft. It has tho', always been fascinating to me this place (it's a snooker club now) great to see those photos and flyers on t'other thread. Perhaps a UTJ reunion opinion should be floated? I've always had a pervish interest in the lesser mentioned but equally important venues. Regards Jim

Being a Crewe (Shavington) lad, (latterley Northampton and then Kent) I 've always wondered about 'UTJ'S' origins, as I was only about 3 when it was going . All the other clubs get the limelight but I've always been curious about this little place on South St. No one really has ever really mentioned it in detail, Who ran it? What was played? How long did it last? (About 12 months?) etc etc. Would be nice to think my home town had some soul oomph Thanx Jim

Ketty Lester 'west Coast'
Bloody hell, thats not a bad price considering I never see it . A great sound from yesteryear, a shame the 'northern' scene can't get back to playing underplayed oldies when appropriate, I swear that at a local do the handbag crowd would rather listen to 'lucky number' than this, the northern scene used to command respect, anyway... Better get out and have a look Ta Jim
