Thats a fair few comments. I hope you can generate a scene that was just as good as the one I enjoyed starting in 1975. Even then there were guys who had started 10 years earlier not too happy about youngsters coming onto a scene already well established. The music is timeless, and also not the sole property of any generation, but you have to understand its not something you grow out of and its a fact that within 10 years or so many pensioners will make up a big part of the scene and you will have kids looking at your generation saying the same things to you as you are saying to us. Frightening. Ed

Giving A Little Back To The Artists
Fantastic Link, just about makes it all worth while. Congrats to the promoters / artists also for allowing you to film. I took a video camera to LA2004 and was banned from using it, but that was maybe to ensure the official dvd of the event sold well. I think the artists just love to be respected for what was in most cases a thankless and fruitless music making task all those years ago. Ed

Northern Soul
This topic was covered a few weeks ago and one point that was made was that its more about a lifestyle than just music. The Northern Soul Scene has not changed that much in 35 years if you break it down into basics IMO. It was not a popular term then except to those who were making money out of it just like now. Ed

Weekenders
I hope some NORTHERN SOUL promoter is not the secret investor and plans to hold events every day of the year........................ Too much of a good thing, I think. Ed

Weekenders
Although it may sound a crazy idea, in contrast to the USA soul weeks that only allowed Brits to go for the whole event, it sounds OK. Pleasing all the people, all the time. Thats the challenge. Ed

Cds
As far as Nothern Soul tracks are concerned, I dont think any vinyl, cd, mp3, or any other reproduced format has generated any money for any of the artists other than a pitance. On the other hand when these artists who are still alive and are lucky enough to get brought over to perform in front of a few 000 fans, it must make it almost worthwhile for them. How much did Frank Wilson get for 'soul survivors 1 cd' ? not much, I guess. Free distribution of the music at least 'spreads the word' and might just generate enough interest to get a promoter/dealer to search the artist out and bring them over here, as has been the case for the last 30 years or so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXZ6DtD6cys This is not what I was looking for, but hey I also just heard Michael Buble singing 'Im coming home baby', so we may have opened the Northern Soul flood gates. Ed

Opinions, Opinions
- Second Chance
Ok, a few years back a couple of Northern Soul 'hits' that were commercial flops when first released got reworked and became big pop records. Thats a fact, not a defense of why, what, when, if, but, etc etc. What Northern Soul tune and modern artist combination do you think could follow these two into the pop charts purely based of 'commercial pop appeal' I'll start off with Robbie Williams singing 'Your ready now' (JUST A LARF, FOLKS) Ed- Any Signs Of A Youth Invasion
Some great opinions expressed to a potential revival, which will happen in some way as there is no 'new scene' for kids at the moment. Of course it starts with curiosity, and some will not get bitten by the Northern Soul - way of life bug, but others will and join for the long term. Once you get a few dozen small groups around the country who meet up at venues and discover how great it is to have mates far and wide, with virtually no trouble, enjoying spine tingling soul influenced dance music, it will be. For the same reasons as we got hooked. Ed- Any Signs Of A Youth Invasion
Well come on theyve got the basic Northern beat, theyve got the basic Northern Dancers, theyve got to find a new direction. Duffy/Amy W etc. Are we going to have/have already lots of curious young uns coming to venues to get more of this 'brand new scene' being invented (again). Its got to be encouraged, and hopefully they will discover the real deal and not the manufactured stuff in the charts. Just like in the 70s with Weakspot/Sharonnettes/Footsee etc, it got us interested and then we moved on, so dont knock em back when they turn up. Ed- Check This B-ll - ks. Bolton Octagon
So were you going to do this? After 4 years of effort, why would it stop you just because someone else beat you to the punch. Surely you must have been trying to reach your goal too long to give up on your journey now. You know 7 days , 52 weeks, 1 year, is a long time and Times a waisting, so keep on keeping on or time will pass you bye and even though you think it will never be over for you, time marches on. Ed- What Where They Thinking
Maybe. Joe must have thought he was onto something. Maybe it was a preminition that one day it would sell well as 'Against my will' on a pressing etc. Its just amazing to think that if either version had sold even a few thousand copies what it would have been like in the local discos/dancehalls when they got played. (What treasures the US missed out on.) Ed- Check This B-ll - ks. Bolton Octagon
I must be missing something, it looks like a good idea to me, but as I only went to Wigan Casino a handfull of times Im no expert if its a true reflection of those guys who went week in week out. Might be better to see it and feedback the producer etc what could be improved rather than write it off. Assuming they are planning to tour it eventually you may become there special advisor. Ed- What Where They Thinking
Im falling in love with you baby - LJC, followed by Put your loving arms around me - The Sherries / his daughters take. Of course they are loved by us, but seriously was it possible by changing the lyrics and singers/vocals on the backing track to get a commercial success that eluded Joe? Ed- Broadway Sissy
Horses for courses. Used to pack CWG dayers dancefloor in the late 70s. Too furious for most ageing punters to dance to today. Oh how great it was to get a couple of hours of tunes at that pace, dance throughout, and still be able to walk the day after. Ed- Northern Soul
What was the reaction of the guys and gals of the 'pre Dave Godin' branding who had been happily listening to this special underground scene of uptempo soul style of music when it suddendly had a 'brand definition' tagged to it in the term 'Northern Soul'. Was it welcomed or unwanted? Ed- Novelty Records
Now now, just coz nobdy put thee darn as 'profesur of soul' Ed- Novelty Records
You've all heard it, and I think its great, but are there any others out there worth a listen? (I suppose Edwins - Scott Breedon tribute was the original). Ed- Insult To Injury
Now I knew that the Winter gardens was to be demolished, but passed by the former site today and its flatened and the site up for sale with an estate agent called Bacon. What an insult. Any other former top venues suffered such indignity? Ed - Second Chance
