  1. Similar to the 'name on the label' thread. Bumped into a guy last year at a 'Sportsmans neet art' and it turned out to be DJ JOHN GREEN from the soul show mentioned circa 1975. Small world. Any other examples of 'you never guess who I just met'. Ed

STEVE MARSHALL - MAINTAIN. GREAT SAX BUT TOO FAST TO DANCE TO THESE DAYS ON THESE LEGS. ED
  3. IS THAT THE BAND WHO DID LA 2004? ED
  4. Just sold one for a tenner. whoops. ed
  5. Contenders. Bought this off Derek Sheldon who played it at the Brickyard Mexboro around 1977. Other stuff he pushed at the time. 'Do I', ' I loved you once' and 'Music - Jeanette White. Ed
  6. Hey that new ad they have looks pretty Northern Soul influenced to me. Like an animated version of the 'Jumping at the go go' LP. Any agreement here.

Best Alexander Patton in LA 2004. Worst Gladys Knight in Las Vegas 2004. Ed
  8. The point being that there is no definition of Northern Soul, its in the ear of the beholder. Ed
  9. Brothers and Sisters behold. If one of our flock has the opportunity to preach the sacred word of Northern Soul on TV then they must exert all efforts to do so and they will be cherished forever in the hall of fame. Well if Tommy can promote SWFC on Corra, there should be somebody flying our flag on S/tenders. Ed
  10. With discs commanding these kind of prices, its about time there was a Nothern Soul museum opened to let us mortals look at such discs. I remember the price crash in the early 80s when prices hit rock bottom. Collections were almost given away. God forbid it turns full circle again, or there will be some frustrated collectors. Ed
  11. Is this the same tune as on the windows 95 trailers. Ed
  12. The ebay.com 'you owe us money' spoofs are very convincing too. Then again bootlegging original material is well known in our circles. Maybe its those blighters from our scene who moved on to bigger and better things.
  13. Reaching for the best - The Brilliant Exciters - The Flasher - Mistura - These were the definitive youth club Northern Soul tunes in 1975. Made to Measures, Cherry brogues, Fred Perry's. Quality. Ed
  14. Starting the topic off. Dobie Gray - Out on the floor - Black Magic - ten bob. Played it to death. Ed

Also try the SOUL CAFE in New York, and the MOTOWN CAFE in Universal Studios Florida (great staircase, broke 2 trying to get them off). Ed

Is it the same Rosemary as Mr Wylie went on about.
  17. I thought this singer was a regular attendee at Wigan? Just like Marc Almond. Got to admit I could not believe anyone could cover a couple of nothern classics and get them high in the pop charts no matter how bad a version it was. Even Tony Blackburn tried. Also heard a version of Bring him back - Sissy Houston - I think by Dusty Springield on an old 60s TV footage. Hey this music can be inspiring. Ed
  18. Thats it James Bynum. Hippo rules OK. FROM MY DING DING DING, it amazing!! Get this tune back on the decks. Ed

Get it up on ebay, put vary rare and collectable, and you never know. These were the records that really made Wigan Casino a classic soul venue. Ed

Snaith All Dayers (Sundays). Someone found out if you had food after the 2.00.pm cut off for beer you could buy cider with the meal. Well what do you think. 'Ive got a brand new combine harvester' was the anthem. Ed

Is Paul Shaw up for sale. Could do with him before Saturday. Wheres Ronnie gone when you need him. Ed
  22. Shit I'm on a computer with no speakers. Now I will have to wait for another 6 hours to see if its it. Well after about 25 years, I suppose I can manage a couple of hours longer. Ed
  23. Had to renew this thread because I am sure this is the instrumental I have been trying to get the details of. Just thought ofanother possibility as you metioned Poke, he had an acetate played as James Bynum think it was called "Love music".... Any ideas of the true identity, and does it still get played. Ed
  24. Perhaps some historian could actually pin a venue to a record and say 99% for sure that, this was the first or only place it was spun. I suspect only the DJs would know for sure. Most of the records mentioned were also played everywhere else, so the claim to fame has to be as above, especially if a dedicated CD is issued. Ed

Wigans chosen few would go down well with the pounding version of Skiing in the snow, or the old wully bully 'footsee'. Whats wrong with me. Baby. Dont forget the deep soul style 'Love Hustle'. So much soul played at Wigan. Wait a minute. Nine times out of ten. The Joker went wild. My hearts symphony. What choice. Ed
