Probably around May time i guess. The swap usually involves about 30 people, first come first in...we usually have a theme which is "agreed" in the days leading up to the swap....everyone is welcome although the Cds should always contain quality soul, no reissues, played out stuff....just quality and something a little bit different......thats the only rule really....oh and that everyone sends out their Cds by the agreed date!!! Final update.

Probably about a third, same as the last time, and the one before, and the one before that;hence I didn't participate in the last one. However, if anyone want to PM their address, I'd like to do a swap of this one. ..... Very cynical Simon and you would be wrong with your esitmate...I guess only 3 or four were missing and a couple of these guys are in the process of sorting theirs out. For the record this is only the third swap and the first one was almost 100%. Really, asking people to individually swap with you is not in the nature of the swap but its up to you mate. I think you might have been better recording 27 Cds and getting 23 back with the possible promise of a couple to follow than to ask for a personal swap. It pisses me off as much as anyone that we dont get 100% complience but some guys actually have very genuine reasons why theirs didn`t go out on time. So, who is going to admit that theirs is "Still to follow"? Chris

I dont know if anyone has mentioned my old venue "Bretby country club" but the night was built around midtempo sounds. In fact it turned your head when you heard something a bit faster! We lasted 4 and a half years before i got bored... At the time (1991) it was very rare to hear beat ballads at any soul nights and sounds like George Smith, Kenny Shepard, George Freeman, Kell Osbourne, Jimmey soul Clark etc were almost unknown to the vast majority of soul-night-goers......at Bretby they became big records.. I would never claim to have discovered all the records played at Bretby...Steve Smith was a major part of the success...but between us, Steve and i sure reactivated a whole lot of great semi-known quality soul music..... I remember when i first became mates with Shifty, probably around 1994, he looked thru my box and exclaimed...."Fack me...you have got a box full of enders"!!! Chris.
