  4. Woody, What this guy gets up to at weekenders is the stuff of legend....just one story, this year on the Friday night He was asleep behind the decks in the main room, I was DJing in the modern room, John was supposed to be on next....Dave Rimmer appeared and said "I cant wake him up, just carry on"....eventually Dave Thorley was 3 records into covering Johns set when John appeared......we all thought he had come to do his set but actually he had lost his coat and was looking for it.....he had woken up in a panic realising his passport was in the front pocket! Someone pointed out that he should be on now and ever the professional he pulled out some tunes and played a blinding spot.....! Chris
  5. For me it was Beano, a local guy from burton who used to go to the Wheel, top bloke, used to do the early set at Bretby for me, great taste, liked new stuff as well...still keep in touch today... Then Gilly....lent me 2000 rare 45s after i`d known him a week! Imagine what was in there, Inspirations, 4 voices, massive Detroit collection...Still see him every month, great guy who despite being a legend made time for me when i first started on the scene. Actually we have spoken about this since and all he said was "I knew you were into the proper stuff". It was great to play Melvin Davis for him the last time I was DJing at Willington..... In the Bretby years it was Steve Smith who was always one step ahead and Cliff Steele, great taste and introduced me to 70s/modern for the first time..... Laterly i love talking to John Anderson, great taste, feet on the ground and someone who really puts the whole thing into perspective for me. Chris
  6. Renaldo Domino on Twinight 139 "Let Me Come Within ". Books for 250-300 USD in Osborne but is not listed in Manship. Any ideas? Cheers, Chris

  11. Dave, 15 years ago when i used to visit the US it was all shops but now we may only do 2 shops on a 2 week trip, its all people for us, friends of friends who used to be in a group that may have some records etc.....I do like the odd shop as I love finding Lps...which is still easier than finding 45s, as you know. I`m trying to think of the last big record i found in a store.....maybe 3x Paul Thompson ($2) back in 2003...Lee David ($3) in 2004.....sure there must have been others since but i cant remember them... Chris. www.theresthatbeat.com www.hitsvillesoulclub.com
  12. I`m in Chicago twice a year and I`m saying you wont find anything big in the stores but you will certainly find something interesting....loads of nice Lps in those stores, mostly untouched by dealers hands....Certainly check out Steve in the dugout, depends what he found that day....but mostly go to Leonas for Pizza, best Pizza in the world by a mile! Chris ps, Dante, I thought you were from Chicago? Or is that a differet guy....?
  13. CDs a bit thin on the ground this week...maybe I have been spoiled! Who are we still waiting for? Chris. ps, cant emphisise enough the quality so far...without exception....

  19. Beverly records on Western Av...always worth a stop although well picked over, just down the street there is "Peabody" records which is good for LPs and has some tasty 45s in if you catch them right. Check out 2nd hand tunes on N.Clark st...find this store and there are a couple of stores near by too......as mentioned check out Steve in his dugout on W63rd, great guy, loads of stuff to look thru... Dont forget that all of these guys have the price guides and check out ebay too....some even sell on ebay...but all you have to do is catch them with the right record on the right day and ....bingo! In saying that they all appreciate you need a deal and will be more than fair with you..... Enjoy the Windy city...my favourite city in the whole world, a magnificent place full of great bars, wonderful food and great soul music! Chris
  20. The Ellusions "You didn`t have to leave"...... Chris
  21. It never fails to amaze me how you can list a record one month and get ten people after it....list it again the month later at exactly the same price etc and not one person emails about it! I`m talking about the Buddy Miles LP with "Just a kiss away" included...... This happens time and time again.....and i cant explain it...... Chris.
  22. Cheers Pete, replied mate. Chris
  23. Just where do i start?! I have a stack of CDs here on the table in front of me...i really cant choose between them, not that i have played them all yet, i`m trying to absorb each one by letting it play 2 or 3 times over so some of the tunes stick. I am just playing Girths at the moment, love the Fantastic four track mate, just found myself lost in Sweet James` voice..... Must thank everyone for the quality of the Cds, its been amazing. Does anyone have an accurate count on how many are still to come? we must be about there now..... Chris
  24. Just a reminder to email all orders to chris.soul@btinternet.com Chris
