John Manships Auction Results 12-12-2012
After seeing several items here that are the same as I sold to John Anderson, it set me to wondering who owned them now - things like the Canadian "The Larue", the De-Lites etc. Or anything as far as it goes... If you own any and you don't mind letting me know (via pm if you prefer) I would be very appreciative. regards, RB

Short Sets?
Fair enough Kev, probably best left eh? No one wants to fall out!

Short Sets?
Thanks for quoting me KevH, I fully understand my opinions aren't always popular (and they never were), but back in the 'good old days' (I think that's irony?) I don't think a promoter would ever ask a dj to do 30 minutes. I would also like to say, that I made no reference to 'decent' dj's as cited in your later post (not that you implied I did, but clarity and all that), I wouldn't be qualified to make that judgment. And Toads point about "too many dj's" seems fairly relevant to me, though I think an hour is enough eh? The world has clearly turned since I was an active member of the scene, and in truth, who cares what I think! Even I don't...

Short Sets?
Never done a spot of less than an hour - what would be the point - just to get behind a pair of decks?

Oscar Perry Ive Got What You Need
Probably on the flip of one of his others Peter - when I recorded them to put on itunes I didn't note that very important piece of info - just have a bunch of random OP tracks! I don't think I have heard anything by him I didn't like though. best, RB Wished I had taken my own advice more often!

Herbert Hunter - I Was Born To Love You
Well my memory isn't what it was either Arthur - and my knowledge was never up to much!

Oscar Perry Ive Got What You Need
Don't forget the flips Peter, some lovely stuff. Isn't "Come on home" on the flip of "Main string"? Top drawer!
-
Clyde Mcphatter
just for reference I was obviously talking about "Please give me one more chance" US Decca lp

Magnificents-There Can Be A Better Way
"This ain't just another dance song"?
-
Clyde Mcphatter
I must confess I don't care who he batted for (so long as i's not Derbyshire...), I remember hearing "Please give me one more chance" (at Cleethorpes) and thinking "I won't hear a better track tonight!

Oscar Perry Ive Got What You Need
Well said Peter, "He sent me you" and "Main string" are top drawer - but h did all those things on Yellow Sun (?) to did't he? "Wind me up"/"Let me do it" and there is a bunch of stuff on Spotify. Can I say that here? A great soul voice.

Magnificents-There Can Be A Better Way
Does the backing on Jack's album provide any clues?
-
Herbert Hunter - I Was Born To Love You
Can't imagine Colin being that confrontational myself - rumour has it (rumour...) that he waited til Levine was in the states to play Jerry Fuller!
-
Oscar Perry Ive Got What You Need
When I first heard that record (Brit, about early '75) I though "200lbs of natural born joy" seemed a tad excessive - now it would appear I am more of a soul "heavy weight" than Oscar!
-
Magnificents-There Can Be A Better Way
I prefer to think of them as the Magnificents who did "My heart is calling"! Good question though...
-
Herbert Hunter - I Was Born To Love You
Couldn't agree more - played alongside some very distinguished company and still made its mark - the test of a great record!
-
Magnificents-There Can Be A Better Way
From recollection even though the labels had different names the manufacturing process looked very simlar, wasn't there even an instrumental of "Paybacks a drag" played too? "Heading west"?
-
Herbert Hunter - I Was Born To Love You
Sam was the first dj I heard play it - John A as the person who supplied it?
-
Magnificents-There Can Be A Better Way
I always thought it was the same record? Was I mistaken? That said, I only ever owned the Smith Brothers, but heard the Magnificents out a lot at the time.
