Michael Mcdonald
It was first released in 1970 or so I've googled, As Ian D has stated first played by Mr Searling and I think he had an ear for a tune or two, Many people may regard this record as a Pop tune,But did it not fit in with many other dance records played at Wigan and many other Northern Soul venues at that time circa 76, It's easy nowadays to poke fun at records like the one in question,There were a lot worse than "God Knows", To numerous to mention in fact,But you can't take away the quality of the vocals,A few people have had a gripe about his Motown covers album and maybe rightly so in some cases, Mike McDonald has IMO one of the best voices of any singer,You can not forget his vocal on James Ingrams "Ya Mo Be There" or even his later songs such as "Sweet Freedom" The last two songs are pure quality,Not Northern Soul I grant you,But soulful IMO. Talc
Never used theTalc myself to be honest,I was quite capable of slipping up and falling on my arse without the use of any white powder, I knew loads of lads and girls who swore by it back in the day,Helped them sway or so they would say, They loved it til the DS collared them,Whats that white powder on your shoes ?, More relevant to this time is why do some people turn up to soul nights carrying an "Adidas" type bag filled with more clothes than they stock in top shop,And get changed after every third record, And beer towels WTF, Seen it loads of times,Give me talc anyday

Talking about video a bit off track I know,But the event in question at the Ritz was it the same one were they had a home cinema type screen up,Just behind where the Dj's worked, I remember it really well they were showing the American "Soul Train" show,No sound just the images, Not sure if it was the same event though- Pressings.. And All That 'carry On'
I can't comment on your post in truth,To be honest, I just remember as a kid wanting to own certain "tunes", So as for bragging wrights to my mates as such,It didnt matter that much as a 14-15 yr old living in Radcliffe in the 70's, My 50p version of The Casualeers sounded just as good in my bedroom as any original copy costing £££'s, As for the Dj's,I think that yes they must have played pressings,Back in the day don't forget that the there was only vinyl,Ok there were cassettes but the Dj's played vinyl,It would not have mattered to the "Dancer" on the floor at the Casino for instance that it was not an orig copy, I can't remember many people on the floor at Wigan who walked off because it was not the original vinyl copy of a certain record- Pressings.. And All That 'carry On'
There is a very good section on here covering the UK re issues,Only found it yesterday myself /forums/topic/139389-uk-northern-soul-re-issues-originally-posted-in-1997-frontpage/- Profffffessssssing

They were on at the Ritz in 76, Barbara did "24 hrs a day" Evelyn did "Weak Spot" L J did " Your Magic" This was the time that LJ Johnson put is stool on the non revolving part of the stage,And his piano on the revolving part of the stage,Half way through his set the stage starts to revolve, leaving him trying to chase his piano and pull his stool around at the same time with his legs,TRUE I was stood on the right hand staircase next to the stage and opposite the Dj console and saw it all in its glory,It was the time of the "Funk Off Levine" escapades,- Pressings.. And All That 'carry On'
All mine were pressings,I think most peoples where Had an Email from a mate of mine via that radio thing I do,About a record he got from Wigan in 78 for a fiver its value now in good nick is about £10, Considering that a pint of lager cost about 50p in 78,And its now about £3 so the record in todays terms cost him about £30 back in the day,So its worth less in value now than when he got it £5 was a lot of dosh then my first wage in 76 was £7.50,So by 78 I would have been on a tenner week if that, I think then more so than now,Many people bought pressings just for the sake of having the record, I / We / You still had those special tunes and many people were not bothered about it being original or not, I remember paying 75p for The Capreez back in 75ish when the price of a normal chart single was 30p and my non soul mates thought I had gone mad- Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
Creative Source "Don't Be Afraid" Was a bit on the funky side- Jimmy Mack
Was the Jimmy Mack from the Martha track based on a real person ? Was Jimmy Mack of "MYIOF" known by another name ?- Jimmy Mack
Just looking through some label scans and came upon Alexander Patton "A lil lovin sometimes" On a Capitol demo, The single was produced by Jimmy Mack, Is this the same person who sang "My world is on fire", And is there any connection with this Jimmy Mack and the one mentioned in the Martha and The Vandellas record of JM Thanks in advance Grant- Did You Go To Jazz Funk Nights ?
Good call Jim, Rafters was a great club,Nice tunes mentioned also,I can't even think about Charles Earland without also linking it to Hamilton Bohannon "Let's Start To Dance", Another I also remember was Foxy "Get Off", One mentioned in an earlier post Larry Graham "Sooner Or Later" I think that was a bit later on than Rafters days maybe very late 70's or early 80's,The B side was a killer slow soul tune called "One In A Million", Not in anyway Jazz-Funk but a blinding good tune, Will you be at the next Heywood night ?? I'm going would be nice to say hello Grant- Anyone Remember Inst "siamese Cats"
It does sound like The Prisoner theme tune,Ive never heard that before, Don't think it will be on my Christmas list to be honnest,I started a thread on here a few years ago,About how some Instrumentals now sound so dated,Not sure if that one was mentioned or not,But it does.- By Any Other Name
The Parliaments - Parliament - George Clinton- Harold Melvin
No point in asking me I asked the first question on this thread, The info I got on this point came from this web site https://dereksdaily45.blogspot.com/2009/08/harold-melvin-blue-notes-get-out-and.html- Harold Melvin
Many thanks for all your help chaps,Helped me so much once again thanks, I just did not want to do the radio thing without the info on the tunes I want to play,Nothing worse than blank spaces and errms and errs,So I thought it best to ask the people who know the answers, Going out next Sunday 15.00 -- 17.00 Uk Time,WWW.Funkysential Radio .co.uk Will be doing a "Whats On" Guide so if anyone wants a plug PM me on here and consider it done, Once again many thanks to all. Heres a link if you fancy a listen https://www.funkysentialradio.co.uk/ Grant- Harold Melvin
Many thanks for your reply Ian, So did Philly just put it out to tender as such,First come first served etc,Because at the time there where loads of Philly sounds released in the UK, Cant help on the "Fingerpoppers" question, But the vocals on Get Out were by a guy called John Atkins,At least from the info I've come across,Some 5 years before Teddy P took the lead vocal position, But you know the old "Tinternet" you never know- Harold Melvin
Firstly not to sure if this is in the right forum,If not could you please move to the correct location,Thanks I'm doing an online Northern Soul show next Sunday and I would like to give a little info on the tunes that I will be playing,Instead of "That was by The Blah Blah", The question I have is, Why was Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes "Get Out (And Let Me Cry)",Released in the U.K. on Route records and not on Philladelphia International, Were they in dispute with Philly,Or was the song owned by somebody else,Or was it before they signed to P I R Done a bit of searching but to no avail, Found that it was released in the states on a label called Landa,And that Route records was part of the Pye label, Many thanks.
