Bobby Goldsboro - Too Many People
Really? Must check at home, got the UK issue and the german one. Never really compared them as "too many people" is not really a fave of mine. But they have different flipsides as well so might be two different versions too...

I thought multi colour is mid-west release and that there are no east coast pressings of any Festival 45s?

Earliest Northern Soul 45s
You're probably right about Charles Sheffield, I just thought I'd seen it somewhere that it was recorded or released in the late 50s but didn't verify that before posting. But according to the Richard Berry discography on www.louielouie.net "have love will travel" was released in 1959 on Flip 349. But in the end, may be it 1959 or 1960, it's still pretty early isn't it?

Little Anthony & The Imperials
Transferred their "Payin' our dues" album to my iPod recently and when I played "lost without you" for the first time I was complete in awe Without a doubt the best beat ballad Teddy Randazzo and Little Anthony & Imperials ever did! As good as "Hurt so bad", "Not the same", "Yesterday has gone", "Call me the joker", etc. are, "lost without you" surpasses them all. Everything you need in a good beat ballad, big production orchestra, drama lyrics, the lot. Very highly recommended! And to come back to the topic of this thread: I'd like to see them performing "lost without you"

Earliest Northern Soul 45s
I don't know if I understand your question but anyway, the earliest 45s played on the scene outside the R&B rooms (i.e. 45s that gained a wider acceptance) that I know of were Charles Sheffield - Voodoo working (1957/58?) and Richard Berry - Have love will travel (1958/59?). But if you're talking about the earliest records that had that sort of sound that later became known as Northern Soul, the first one that springs to my mind is Jimmy Ruffin - Don't feel sorry for me. From 1962 but sounds much much later...

Youngest Person To D.j At The 100 Club
You bet you were mate The one file I played this morning on the way to work had Roger Banks desperately seeking you ("Can anybody please find Mark Bicknell and direct him to the radio room? He's probably lost")

100 Club Anniversary 45s
I agree on Melba Moore. Even if it's played to death for some, it's pure quality. I disagree on Carla Thomas. As good as it is, it always sounds "empty" to me and IMO it's pretty obvious it's an unfinished demo. How about Chuck Jackson "what's with this loneliness"? Now that's a goodie...

Youngest Person To D.j At The 100 Club
I got some of the infamous Banks'n'Bicknell show on my Gt. Yarmouth tapes I think. Once I found the time to upload the mp3's I did of the tapes it's embarrassment time for Mr. Bicknell

Help Needed To Identify Two Tunes
Here's a mp3 file taken from the tape with both tracks, first one is "the heartstoppers" then "detroit soul" (at about 02:35 into the file) Any help in identifying either song much appreciated! Yarmouth_1990___Tape_3.2.mp3

Help Needed To Identify Two Tunes
Was wondering if somebody can help me to identify two tunes. I have both on audio tape only and are recordings of the radio shows during the Great Yarmouth Northern Soul Weekender 1990. I think the DJ on the Radio was Rob Marriott but am not too sure about that. Anyway, the tunes are: 1) Heartstoppers feat. Betty Baker - My man sure is real. Might be a cover up I dunno. earthy, funky late 60s/early 70s dancer with some mean horns (hope this makes sense, I'm not used to that funky slang of todays hip youths). 2) Detroit Soul - my darling please. Pretty sure this is a cover up. Midtempo dancer. The horns suggest a Carolina beach blue eyed combo and the singer is a bit lightweight, Real title might be "please leave me" or "please give me". Checked Refosoul for both titles but didn't find anything. Will try to upload sound clips soon TIA Benji
