Yes, clearly organ with a bit of echo. Still sounds weird though.
  2. why? freebie was first
  3. The belgian press looks like a bootleg to me. I mean, just look at the logo. and the overall appearance of the label. Smells fishy. BTW, I keep seeing an allegedly german press of Jamo Thomas on lists. Can somebody confirm that there's really one?
  4. CDs and later on MP3 sort of "killed" collecting compilation LPs (IMO). I know some guys who tried to get all Soul Supply and Kent LPs. Eventually they did. But that was 20 years ago. Nowadays it's either OVO or pressings or MP3 files.
  5. I agree, getting the complete Kent vinyl set is very hard. Some LPs are very easy to find, others very tough. But the question is: Are there any collectors out there trying to complete the whole set? I don't think so. And if there are, probably just a few Or speaking of collectors in general. Are there any collectors of 80s/90s Soul/Northern Soul compilation LPs. Again, I don't think so. My point is: IMO compilation LPs are completely out of fashion these days. I'm going to repeat myself here. Folks either want OVO or at least a 7" reissue/boot for haptic feeling.
  6. As good as they are, IMO all those Kent and Charly compilations aren't worth more than 10/15 quid these days. Due to demand. Because there isn't much. Folks either want the real deal, or 7" reissues/boots.
  7. Hm, not trying to suggest anything. But is it possible that that specific "intro noise" press was dubbed from another disc?
  8. sorry for hijacking the thread. Here's TG live:

  10. I guess it's just you. Because not grading the "unwanted"/ballad side is nothing recent. This has happened to me quite often even back then in pre-internet times. It's a pain in the ass, I agree.
  11. Steelers - Disturbing thought. Awful intro. Improves significantly after that.

I don't say it's not her. Only that she denies it's her. I guess it's more like she doesn't want to be associated with a commercial flop considering her career.

    Thanks.

Just my two-penneth: Candi Staton denies it's her.

Rob, were these labels distributed by Circa from Day 1 or were they picked up for distribution later on?
  16. If seller would have followed the guidelines Ivor's post wouldn't be necessary. What's the point of deleting the price?
  17. Was it really 97 that the site started? I thought it kicked off as an email-list?
  18. The name's Alferd Kersten, not Kerston. Owner and main producer of Kerston records. He's still alive. John Harris was reissued using the original tapes. Very likely IMHO they came from him and Bear Family licenced from him.
  19. The info that Marc Forrest posted came from the producer of the record. Is that true and factual enough?
  20. No, different stories. John Harris was never meant to be sold to the public. The band took the whole run to sell them at their gigs. The record was pressed on a german label but I don't see it as a german release because it was never released to the public. Soul Explusion and many other US army outfits were actually released to the public. There were plenty of bands doing the US army circuit, meaning they went from airbases to barracks, playing for GIs only. John Harris was such a band. Non-US army folks weren't allowed to attend those gigs.
  21. I really like the record now, it's a grower. The strings are just fabulous. Pretty obvious they were added either by producer Fred Kersten or at least on his recommendation. European HQ of the US army was Heidelberg at the time. Majority of the german US army contingent was based in the area Kaiserslautern/Heidelberg/Frankfurt. From what I understand the band took the whole run pressed (~250) to sell them at army base gigs. IMO best chances to find any copies in Germany is were the army was based. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's a copy tucked away in the old AFN radio archive. It used to be here in Munich until early/mid 90s but was relocated to Frankfurt. AFAIK it's still there. 100's of 1.000's of records locked away.
  22. PS: Am I alone in thinking this was probably recorded at a slower speed? It sounds just a tad too fast to me...
  23. If I was a mod I wouldn't have said "please". You were referring to somebody playing a reissue instead of an original of same price. Basically another dull and boring original vs reissue post. And off-topic. But seeing others joined you now I'll leave you guys alone with yet another discussion about playing out reissues or not.
  24. When you want to discuss issues like this please open a separate thread. Thank you.
