  1. Still, as I never ever told you nor anybody else (so I wonder about your quote anyway but what the heck), I wanna tell you. 10 Vinyl that is. But I do change between these ten regulary..´cause I am not the "Daddy-O" but the "Daddy of them Hot Boxers"
  2. Judging from the fact you tend to call everything that dances "cats" you may have mixed it up all totally. So you seem to think this thread is about the Overseas Rock & Roll scene ? If thats the case indeed we will understand fully your disbelief and obvious opinion of course.. Marc ""the jive cat" Forrest
  3. Don`t worry, thats only because I am at the decks. Happens to me all the time.
  4. Its no wonder Simon aka Imber Boy is dissappointed by the way us continental Soulboys and girls are dancing as the quote shows its "his" dancing...so what ever we do it will be only a carbon copy of the good old English traditional Northern Soul dancing to him anyway. The video is very slow, much slower than the music Something Imber Boy should have realised given he really watched the video as often as he claims he did. So obviously the dancing in the video seems to be much slower than the actual dancing in reality was. As a matter of fact, and you can ask all of our English and Scottish friends who were there on both nights, the whole crowded room with an estimated capacity of 500/600 hundred people danced from about 11pm to 05am non stop. Atmosphere was fantastic to say the least. Imber Boy confesses he never was out and about on the continent for soulful reasons. Not only would I suggest you better do so before you judge on sth you haven`t experienced yourself yet, I almost beg you to do so in order for you to do yourself a favour. Some of the best venues and weekenders these days you will find also in places such as Bamberg, Hamburg, Nürnberg, Oslo, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Malmö, Barcelona, Gijon and loads of other places. Just like Dave Thorley said, collectors and DJ`s such as Franz Heidl, Puresoulie, Lars, Sebastian Fonzeus and many many others are real vinyl vendors awho are not only able to find their own vinyl gems but also to create their very own individual plays. Still people like Soul Sam, butch, Andy Dyson and again many others are leading the way soundwise over here as well as they do in England. But if Wigan - styled retromania only is what your looking for dance- and soundwise you are indeed right in staying away and a visit would bring you nth but dissappointment. Rare Soul on the continent...like a baby whose birth and genetics were given by the English (although the music is American, Afro-American, I might add..) but now grows up strongly self-determined and develops its very own style. Which ain`t too bad. Marc
  5. Just to state it loud and clear Tommy and I have no problems with each other, he is one of my friends. And a top bloke as well. Marc
  6. which is the copy that went to person "x" and then straight to me
  7. Coconut Groove ?
  8. yeah, sounds like a good plan.
  9. Dennis Edwards Johnnie On The Spot Well, both told me they were the first to play it. Tim then said to me "well, maybe Steve (Smith) was first but then again I was the first to have played the flipside" So, Johnny On The Spot = Steve Smith I Didn`t Have To = Tim Brown
  10. Butch played it at your club when you invited him for your last anniversary. If you didn`t like it back then you wouldn`t like it at the Hip City neither.
  11. Steve Smith
  12. nearly forgot Tomasso, if still in Berlin gimme a ring and we meet up, just got back from the big N¼rnberg Weekender (where of course I also played Keith Curtiss ;-)
  13. 1500 to 2000 UKP, another Butch biggie and about a small handfull in other DJ`s hands (such as mine). Quite rare...
  14. This is a real shocking sad news. What a great gentle individual he was. What a loss. I am really sad. RIP Alan. Marc
  15. Before anyone complains, this obviously was a joke, its the clip the seller did put up a few days ago
  16. The winner did put his new JD Bryant up on youtube.... ...next to Motley Crue, Pearl Jam, Neil Young and The Doors. Complaining about narrow minded Soulies ? Well, obvioulsy not in this case
  17. there you go..and I don´t even know what a streaming player is LOL.
  18. not the death sentence but surely a(nother?) nail in the cuffin.. /forums/topic/117582-the-end-of-an-erathe-1200-waves-goodbye/page__pid__1206304__st__0entry1206304
  19. Just found this on this internet...goodness me. End of an era indeed. Sure, there are already other products in use (mostly copying the good old 1200) but sure this is a milestone which will lead now definitely into a new era in which night - and clublife will change once and for all. Better leave the next 45 aside and invest in two or three replacement turntables...especially if you are a promoter. The last dance RIP Technics turntables "The phrase end of an era gets bandied about far too often, usually to describe the exit of a talentless no-mark from a reality show, but alas no other cliché is applicable. It's our sad duty to report that Panasonic are to stop making Technics turntables. In a statement the company announced that production would end in February next year. A spokesperson for Panasonic said: "It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables." Digital turntables and the ease of storing music on laptops means that demand for the turntables has dried up. The memories of illegal raves, house parties and filthy beach sex while Pete Tong had it large on the ones and twos at Cafe Mambo will soon be all you have." 20. Cant tell as I don´t know them buyers and sellers in person...still, it wasn`t cheapie since the eighties and once demand had risen the price of course had to follow. Its not the first and won`t be the last time were demand dictates a rise in price. Don`t know why I bother though, I bought mine over twenty years ago and still have it, so what ever price, I don`t care really.
  21. I would have said the records 2nd time is already history. Anway, it used to sell up to 300 UKP in recent times (lists and interent). Great record by the way.
  22. Amen Russ, you couldn`t have put that any better. In general I recently had come to the conclusion to stay away from threads like this (or for example that infamous and laughable other thread "Overseas scene, real or just dicking around?") but as it made me so happy I just felt the need to add the following: our Hip City crowd here in Berlin is between 20 and 45 (with one exception making it 63 LOL) but since start of this year we are very happy to have found new regulars in a crowd of young Berlin Mods. I knew from previous talks with them that they are between 16 and 18, this year they already started travelling to Weekenders in Germany, but next year so they told me at the last Hip City they will wider their horizon by travelling to weekenders abroad as well...if that wouldn`t be enough already they even started collecting vinyl now! This is what its all about. F****g fantastic! Its 2009 and here we have 16 year old Mods discovering the Rare Soul scene for themselves!
  23. And only seven bucks below last years final result.

Don`get confused boys....the actual and latest version is the second edition. Volume 4 covers labels S to Z and indeed was the last volume to be publisghed as the final part of this second edition. Edition three is about to be published next year although before there will have been the publication of a comprehensive Soul Labels (only) Edition. Bob is currently working on that. Marc
