Soul Club Names? Help Wanted
Hi Andreas Like the "Midnight Movers" name - but I'm presuming it's a vinyl venue so how about: "Midnight Groove(s)" With or without the 's'

El-Corals Band
The strange thing with this is they cut the the bongo driven intro from the Chick Chick side for the Rouser release but left the drab intro for the flip which doesn't get going until 28 sec in to the tune - should have left the Tiny version intro for Chick Chick and cut the flip down - IMHO of course

The Obscure Sub-Genres Of The Soul Spectrum
Don't concern yourself too much with the usual 'helpful' comments you'll get as a new member asking a genuine question and trying to develop your knowledge Anyway,IMHO, If you're writing a Mod focused blog steer clear of the multitude of terms that have crept in over the years to the Soul scene - it will be a very painful and tedious experience i.e. what is Northern Soul, Crossover, Modern Soul etc However, terms such as popcorn, tittyshaker/boogaloo, latin soul, new breed (perhaps) and blue-eyed soul can all be defined with some relevance and examples given to at least give an introduction and starting point for newcomers.. As it's probably not a thread that will receive huge serious response I'll pm you some info and references you may find useful.. Good luck with the Blog..

Under Rated Records ?
The Jesse S, to my ears, is just about perfect for the more progressive venues and certainly a 45 favoured in Europe - great tune..
-
Under Rated Records ?
The only tune I can live with from these is 'Shades Of Jade' for the intro, as for the others each to their own, but "it's Only A Paper Moon' cost me a ton in the mid-eighties and I still don't know why I bought the thing - c'est la vie!

Great Intro's
3 For today (it could be an endless list of intros that take me to another place - a good place :-) KINGS Of SOUL - IS YOUR LOVE For ME LOU PRIDE - I"M COMIN' HOME IN THE MORNIN' And a Club Classic: ARCHIE BELL & the DRELLS. THERE'S GONNA BE A SHOWDOWN & the awesome "Tighten' Up'...

Under Rated Records ?
Hallelujah! A great record is a great record - cheap, expensive, rare, available or unachievable for most.. Here's an example of a 5 quid record that speaks for itself:
-
Under Rated Records ?
Yep same recording but the plus side for the Miss Madeine 45 is the flip "Behave Your self' another nice track..
-
Under Rated Records ?
I'll put this forward again, for under 20 quid it's top boll&x as far as my ears are concerned: One of the best cheapies out there imho: Little Carl Carlton "Two Timer" / Drop By My Place" (Back Beat)

Is This Now The Rarest /dearest 100 Club Anniversary Single ?
As noted the price asked isn't the price gained John. The site selling does tend to put high headline prices for certain 45's but I doubt they are always sold at the price advertised. As Chalky comments below, to my mind 'Magic Touch' will always be the real gem of this series...

Old (M) Pressions - Right On - Brooks Bros
Same as mine Henning. I'm not aware of a reissue or boot.

Set Sale - 25 Records - With Sound & Label Scans

Funky Soul
The records from Paul's mix, in particular Sir Guy - I Need You, King Roosevelt, William C Belton are all good records but maybe the term Northern is stretching it as it would be for others e.g 2 from JJ Caillier's label Sampy And Bad Habits / Chuck Colbert and some gospel themed tunes with soul like Bobby Lee Fears but they're definitely tunes with a funky soul feel. So again we come down to a matter of definition and ultimately personal taste. I welcome the development of nights and playlists in this manner others may not. I also agree with Joan that the hard edged 'blaxpolitation' tunes are the real point at issue as they don't have a soulful element and are pure funk.

Funky Soul
The tunes you're talking about Chalky, I think, have in the main been in around forever. It's a danceable tune with an edge for me call it what you will (funky soul etc etc) A number spring to mind that are considered classics on the Northern scene: World Column - So Is The Sun NF Porter - Keep On Keeping On Rufus Wood - Before 2001 etc Always been around just seems a focus on them and some newer / less heard tunes - as you say Emperors New Clothes - but give me that anytime over insipid pop tunes hat passed for soul music!

I Wish Bootleggers Would F*ck Off
Can't understand why Gerald (Jazzman) would put this out as it's hardly in line with the usual output. It does get me down that as soon as a record is on the up people feel the need to put out a re--issue (assuming it's been licensed legitimately) If it's a 1K plus tune that is unachievable for most and is licensed to the benefit of the artist then fair enough, but this looks too much like bandwagon jumping. Get's right up me snotter Greg..
