This is my ‘Soul life’ (Present time) I’m not interested in anywhere else (which includes the area in which I live in) To those events I may like but have never attended, a time factor is included (I also have a life to lead) The Life-line All-nighter - Because I strongly believe in what they are doing (Just need to turn those lights down guys) ïŠ Grumpy Soul - Because it has that ‘Magic’ that I used to feel every weekend. I put that down to the promoters - It feeds through the event (More Mid-tempo would be nice for me) Boomerang - Some seem to have the impression that this event leans heavily towards the modern side, it may have at one time, but my experience of the place is just good soul music and far from a Modern Night. I go here for the music - it suits me down to the ground. The Burnley All-nighter - A real ‘Northern Soul All-nighter’ Probably just the once a year for me, what with my ‘Mid-tempo romantic side’ an’ all that - that’s just about all I can handle! But I do love ‘blowing off the cob webs’ there. Burnley is the All-nighter that picks you up, takes you, and spits you out at the end. You don’t need to ‘Gee’ this event on - it does it itself. (John Mc, I hope there’s still room for me for another trip there again soon) The Wilton - A place I love, and will go to various projects that Boxy may come up with. The Wilton is a precious part of my Soul history. The 100 Club - Haven’t been in a long time and almost forgot to mention it! Such is the ‘Engine of the Soul Scene’. It’s that good we take it for granted (a bit like Butch) I hope to pop in a little more from time to time, even just at Christmas (Also a very important part of my Soul history) Once the above venues have gone, I’ll be gone……In amongst the ‘awfulness’, I hope they can last and keep their special unique identities - That is what the Soul Scene is to me. All the best, Len P.s - Thanks to all those involved in the above venues - I have made some very special memories at your places.

Didn't the Mods have a better outlook though? I am from a generation up, as you are talking about 1979. My first Soul All-Nighter was in 1985, so I wasn't there to witness what you describe. What was the problem with that particular influx? I would have thought anyone coming into it in that era would have been like me (and many others) 'Wide eyed, and willing to learn' All the best, Len

Hello mate, I think you miss-read - There's only one 'g' in my word 'Youngun's', it's just slang for 'Young ones', an affectionate description at that. As Alison rightly pointed out, no one should get personal. I don't like the term 'Baggy Trouser Brigade' (Or 'Handbaggers') I have an opinion (as you have read) but an observational one, not a p*ss taking one. All the best, Len

The young kids wearing 70’s clothes seems bizarre to me - After the 70’s lot, the 80’s lot developed into something different, and that ‘change’ kind of carried on right through the 90’s, until early 2000 (when it all went wrong) Maybe these people only have the ‘where it all went wrong’ decade to be their influence (Shame, but makes sense) It’s just an observation, and they are probably nice people, but if there was a load of young people taking it all forward, I would have loved them to be really sharply dressed, maybe a bit 80’s influenced, but most importantly something of their own, doing it their way - What happened to the Ivy League College Boy look? No offence intended to these younguns, and I welcome them onto the Scene - I just think they are missing out on the ‘magic’ that they could get from doing it their way. Maybe in time, they will. All the best, Len P.s - 'Positive Alison' - I'm watching you........

I was at a 50th Birthday Party last weekend and my sister introduced me to this bloke (He was someone who was going through his ‘Modlife Crisis’)……Because he had a Scooter, she told him I was into ‘Northern Soul’, he said……”Great, put a bit of the ol’ talk down!”……then proceeded to do a ‘twist’ like dance c/w a stupid grin on his face…..I’m that close to completely giving up going out now - This show has bought me even closer; I don’t want to be associated with it anymore. Although I would love to say I don’t care anymore - it kinda saddens me……. All the best, Len

Northern Soul On The One Show Next Wednesday The 26Th
Yes same as, in fact you are dead right on the good experience - how many mates can say they have been 'on set', sat next to the Mrs whilst both having make up put on, and filmed for twelve hours? Not many, and I would recommend that unique experience to anyone - Great fun.......I did offer Elaine a day at my welding factory, but she politely declined It was an eye opener - 12 hours filming for a 3 minute vid. So think how many hours have been spent on the NORTHERN SOUL FILM! As you point out, there is a difference when it becomes a circus act......Another thing that can make a farce of it, is the editing of course, if done by someone who knows nothing about what we're about, but they are just doing their job as best they can. All the best, Len

Northern Soul On The One Show Next Wednesday The 26Th
I think the M People dealt direct, i.e, they didn't advertise for dancers - This had some credit as it was done tastefully (A few seconds clip of a dancer, then something else, that sort of thing) In fact, I think it just had a few people dance on it that happened to be on the Soul Scene that's all - and very well respected people at that. All the best, Len

I love your positive approach Russ - Infectious!....Now go and sit next to Alison, and I'll take a photo of your smiles. ........Oh, and on your way out, could you turn the light out mate? All the best, Len P.s - Your post number 15..."It was a pop up Casino thing I think".......came across so 'dead pan' (being as I know you) it had me in stitches - It was all 'matter of fact'
