  1. I've never doubted that most of these type of D.J's do have 'other' records, so why don't they 'splice' them in the main rooms? - The 'returnees' have now 'returned' for ten years, so I recon they would welcome fresh tunes - It's probably a matter of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and if there are a few repeats, so what?... .....I am begining to wonder though, if 'on the whole' people are getting fed up with it.......then I go somewhere and get reminded - actually no, they're happy All the best, Len
  2. I'll let someone else say "Eddie Parker - I'm Gone"....I'm getting worried about being predictable.....must try harder to be original! My last purchase was an Album. 'Mary Wells - sings My Guy' - I bought it for the track 'He's The One I Love' (Same as Patti Drew) which I'm trying my bestest to play 'out' (when I dare) All the best, Len
  3. "So, how how about a defintive list of the GREAT stuff played at the old Place ??" Gotcha now.....Sorry, can't help you there.......I didn't go...... All the best, Len
  4. F*ck me, I'm confused now Len
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but there is a difference between - 'How bad was Wigan, really?'.....and 'Was Wigan bad?' Sorry 'MrC'....but I think Jocko's right..... Great fun though All the best, Len
  6. "Get used to it girlfriend!" - Have you ever seen a thread that stays 'on course'? This thread had everything, the 'no where near the point' the 'arguments', the 'quips' etc, etc, so all in all I think it was a success All the best, Len P.s - What was the question again?
  7. I don't think anyone would deny that Wigan Casino was a place of legendary status, it must have been magnificent to those that attended......The 100 Club was my 'Wigan Casino' (Still going strong)....... Point being, the 30 years that followed Wigan also counts for something, which I know most of you guyz on here wouldn't deny either, but loads do (actions, not words) and that frustrates the hell out of me. All the best, Len
  8. Oh yeh..... Len
  9. MONEY SAVING EXPERT! Len
  10. Crumbs.....Can you imagine if everyone carried on for years and years, and the whole Scene ended up like that? - It doesn't bare thinking about.... All the best, Len
  11. That's true, this is why we have so many disagreements on what should and should not be played on 'the Scene' (Guilty as charged!) Not that I was 'there' in the 'beginings', but would I be correct in saying, that as soon as it was named 'Northern' Soul, it seemed to immediately become a nostalgic Scene?.....All changed in the 80's as we know, then full circle (in the main) back to nostalgia again...Maybe naming it 'Northern' Soul was actually a bad thing. In saying that, I think the name 'Northern Soul' helped 'fuse' it all as a Scene, if that makes sense - Who knows?..... All the best, Len
  12. The UK one is very rare isn't it? - Yes, without the spoken intro! Off 'original' topic I know - Great record, that sadly falls into the 'we know it too well so don't want to hear it' bracket All the best, Len
  13. We'll be there of course Kev - Chantel will never be forgotten. All the best, Len 'n' Nina x
  14. I suppose some like it, some think they like it (Sheep syndrome) You and I have different musical tastes Terry (or at least when / where we should be hearing certain styles) but there’s no denying either taste is Soulful - We have a ‘mutual disrespect’ on this which is fine, and it can actually be fun (sometimes!) ..…Point being - this record ain’t even soulful, so how did it ‘pop’ up anywhere in the first place? If I ever hear it - Fag time! ....ooops almost forgot - IMHO of course All the best, Len
  15. Awful record as well Len
  16. Agreed, unless (as has been stated before, which you touch apon in your post) somone is breaking a new tune. It's a rare occasion nowadays, but there's nothing better than hearing a D.J saying "First time out for this" ....then 'underlining' his set with the same record again - especially if he does it right, and has a packed floor to it the second time - Great stuff All the best, Len
  17. The risk of repeated tunes is reduced if a night is made up of D.J's with different identities (their own preferably) I know there's many Jocks out there that could quite easily turn up 5 minutes before their spot safely in the knowledge that more than likely, none of their tunes would have been played, and that's not because they have a box of 'one off's. These people wouldn't do the turning up 5 mins before their spot thing anyway; these are the sorts that go to nights whether they're D.Jing or not, so would be there reasonably early because it's their night out. All the best, Len
  18. Try again mate - I'm eating my lunch and want somat to read All the best, Len
  19. It's amazing how a repeat tune is REALLY noticable isn't it? I think I'm correct in saying that 'in the old days' some tunes were repeated more than twice in a night, and that it didn't matter because they were relatively fresh back then. I'm pretty sure I would have wanted to hear 'Eddie Parker - I'm Gone' at least six times in one night as a teenager I'll 'name a name' as this is a compliment - I was D.Jing in a second room a few months back, and Rob Smith was on after me. He of course had his record stall which was situated in another room, so he didn't know what had been played, so he asked if he could see what I had played. I handed him all the records from my spot, so he could flick through them. He then went on and started his set 'keeping with the theme' - All very professional I thought......Wasn't sure what to make of his comment "So you're Lenny Dopson are ya?" though All the best, Len
  20. True. All the best, Len
  21. Actually, I’ve just remembered something - A while back I was at ‘an event’ where a well-known D.J was explaining to me (all matter of fact like)......“If ‘so and so’ is here I know he’s gonna play ‘this and that’, so I won’t play them, but I’ll play ‘this’ instead" I remember thinking Jesus, if things are that predictable, why D.J? - It certainly wouldn’t interest me. At least he was paying attention, and determined not to do the repeat thing I suppose. As you can see, I’m not one to ‘name names’ etc - I’ll leave that to the older boys All the best, Len
  22. Does this really happen that often? I've often said I think it's 'Northern Soul Folk Law' - Serious question (In a friendly way) I suppose it would a bit 'much' to name where / who / when etc - I've never seen it happen, I must be going to different places. All the best, Len
  23. Yup - Lets here it for 'Soul in the Bowl' aye Terry?! ......that is where you meant isn't it mate? All the best, Len
