If we take as a given that northern is traditionaly about motown copiests, then a lot of what we consider Northern wouldnt of been played by the urban black communities, it was music made by black people for a general pop audience and may well have been popular on the college circuit, rather than some seedy Harlem niterie where the real jive cats were at.
  2. been listening to john lee hookers 'lets spend the night together' blows the stones for me.

  5. when we used to do the arms it had a metal fire escape, I dropped my box from the top and watched them slowly (it seemed to take an eternity) bounce down two flights and land at the bottom, strangly the only damage was a busted hinge on the box. I also dropped Don Gardner- boogaloo, on the celler floor and broke a piece of the rim, knackered it, its just fit for the wall now.

  10. to go back to the poster original piont, he probably did, there are certainly many modern fans out there still buying and searching for contemporary independant releases like the ones Sam played in the later days of the cassino.
  11. 10 or 15 years ago I thought sam was awful, I'd seen him clear the floor so many times with things that just didnt work on the dancefloor for me and many others. I've seen him play 3 times this year and jus tthink he's amazing now, a consumate proffesional who always delivers in playing quality biggies whilst evenhandardly deliving a sublime mix of new spins, quality oldies, 60's 70's et all. All heil Sam he da man!
  12. thanks I'll be taking a dekko of this
  13. sounds like it could have been then
  14. its not really encouraging when so many positive threads dont get a sniff and everyone's so ready with the ones they dont like, honestly there's none mentioned so far that I hate as much as hearing anything from the top 100 again.
  15. I'm with you on the bricklayers but Hayes Cotton Come on youth!

thnaks thats really interesting, it would seem, to some extent, there's an untold story of the growth of black music on the continent in the 6ts.
  18. was it played at the torch? I know 'wait till...' was and its sounds sooo like a typical torch tune, i cant believe they wouldnt of played it if they'd know about it or had a copy, love it myself.

how come so much black music got released ove there? is there a french eqivillant of David Godin who was instumentla in promoting the music?
  20. yeah, ive had it all over the equipment but I'd never say you cant use it, if a venue kicks up, then they can f.o. its part of the scene and makes dancing so much easier, even if you do have leather soles. Someone said to me he used glycerine powder?as a replacement.
