  1. As always I played two shortish spots on the night, this one prior to Mick Welsh lasted from 9.40 ish till 10.10. A mixed bag of underplayed and classics to hopefully get em up and into dancing, with as ever, the in house 'Genuine talc'. Jackie Beavers- Trying to get back to you Tyrone 'wonderboy' Davis- Running a losing race Bud Harper- Wherever you were Jimmy Gilmer- Thunder and lightning Bobby Diamond- Stop Tymes- Love that your looking for Williams and Watson- Too late Al Robinson- Sho nuff bout to drive you wild Terri Bryant - Geni. Will try to post the later spot in a bit, that all for now folks!
  2. Superb set Chris, greatly appreciated your services, some fantastic music with yourself and Mick filling the rarities gap excellently. Very hard act to follow!!! Will try to post this humble soulies mix of underplayed and oldies later. Heard a few people, comment on this mix of music for the night being about as across the board as you would find anywhere.
  3. Hi mate, you know this has been reissued/ booted, I parted with a styrene reissue last week, vinyl is the one you want!
  4. following on from the thread about Bostocks in Bradford, I had many bargains whilst studying in the smoke from a stall on Berwick streeet market, one i particularly remember was the chosen few- birth of a playboy, in multiples on both labels, but there were many more, I'm sure I can remember someone finding- Doctor truelove down there too. This was the early 8ts but I know it had been there for a long, long time before that. anyone else remember digging through the stock?
  5. A good deal methinks, seen jimmy on here for less than 200, but not the english only Kikki Dee
  6. How very Sad Paul The nastyness and the bitching is a foul cancer that has spread across this scene in the last few years! HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH PAUL,,, along with Jez and Malc you gave us Old Torchies one of the greatest days Soul Wise since 1972-73 last year!! Here here, couldnt agree more with these sentiments!!!!!
  7. [i used to rewrite treatments and film scripts professionally, this subject deserves more... For example... A young guy, carrying serious social baggage....20 years old, fresh out of youth custody gets left his late UNCLE'S records, a box of old vinyl...At first he's disinterested, ignoring the poignant note left with them....his life is in a rut, he's fell out with his mates, is pissed off with shitty dance scenes and commercialised Hip Hop....He does not want to get lured back into crime and needs something real in his life...He meets an older guy through chance, an-ex Junkie, now reformed and a former Torch or Casino face and shows him the record box....The guy starts to talk, about the scene and the records, what they mean, what they represent.... Something real, something special. Somehow, the old face's story strikes a chord with the boy....The old Casino footage is utilised in this manner, blurry, symbolic of memories, no need to recreate, let the real stuff do that job and then go inside a good venue on todays scene for the up to date stuff.... A weekender like Cleethorpes, the older guy takes him...A meeting with a veteran BLACK AMERICAN soul Artist, somebody who did a bit of time himself back in Detroit or Chicago but then found the music...other characters emerge and touch his life....It's a rites of passage weekend, the start of a journey....3 days that will change this boy's life forever.... Spot on make , when can I see this movie, sounds superb, what fantastic sentimnets!!!!!
