  1. The Northern scene has always been about records that fitted the bill at the time , some being ultra soulful , many crass stompers , and some white artists that happened to sound right at the time .With the lyrical content and the fact that The M.V.P 's sounded different to a lot of other records at the time I can quite understand it's popularity , particularly as it's part of the sound track to " This England " , which would elevate this waxing to legendary status in many folks eyes .I wouldn't really care if I never heard it again , but with a lot of these records , they aren't just pieces of plastic , a lot of memories etc are tied up in them, and people can relate to them, rather like looking at an old photo , memories of a bygone era flood back .I don't think the black / white issue really comes into it , much of Gene McDaniels , Lenny Welch and even some of Ray Pollards sides veer close to M.O.R at times , as Cliff suggests , it's more a case of was it made as a Soul record [ Magnificent Men is a great example , they were obviously Soul fans .] It would be interesting to interview members of the group and find out what market they were aiming at .Best ,Eddie
  2. Thanks also for the mention and the tips on Eddie Floyd and King Floyd - just bought them !! Best ,Eddie
  3. Unbelievable show Mick , great records , and very informative chat in between .Great to hear a record dealer who is still really into the music like he was back in the day .Loved things like The Dynamics - Lonely man , and The Servicemen - Connie , plus Eddie Floyd and that Gospel side from yourself .Brilliant mate ,Best ,Eddie
  4. If you're still digging the music , then that's the main thing Mark , plus you never hear a crap record at home !! Must admit , with the internet ,you still feel involved in the scene even if you haven't been anywhere for a while , where as years ago I used to go crazy if I hadn't talked about Soul music to a like minded Soul for a while .Don't worry about it mate , do what you feel .Best wishes ,Eddie
  5. The Velvelettes - These things , single version and version with different lyrics on Motown chartbusters 6 , Tammi Terrell - Tears at the end of a love affair , LP version on Motown , plus version with slightly different lyrics heard on Searling show , spun by Martin Koppell , anyone know what it's on ? Joe Tex I gotcha , funky version and smooth 70's dancer version .Interesting stuff ..........Best ,Eddie

  7. I picked up a Chris Farlow album the other week at a car boot " The art of " includes versions of Open the door to your heart , It was easier to hurt her [ Garnet Mimms ] , We're doing fine [ DD Warwick ] , I've been loving you too long [ Otis ] , Reach out I'll be there ,and What becomes of the brokenhearted .Open the door is pretty good and sounds like a duet [ PP Arnold ? ] to me , unless Chris is performing vocal gymnastics !! Best ,Eddie

  9. Not a record as such , but a few years ago my driving instructor told me that he was in a 60's beat group [ he also made stage clothes for Johnny Wilders Chicago Heatwave ] .What kind of songs did you play , originals or covers I asked ? " Well we used to do this song called " Fireman " which was a great song , but lyrically wasn't right as we were an all male band - don't suppose you know it do you ?, as I haven't heard it for years " His face was a picture when I took my Atlantic copy ' round his place to hear for the first time since the 60's .Wonder where he heard it first as it's a pretty obscure record isn't it by any standard .Interesting eh ? Best ,Eddie

  13. Does anyone on here know who played Eddie Parker on Ashford first , and Popcorn Wylie - Rosemary .I know they were massive at Wigan , and that Eddie Parker was a Torch side , but who started them off , and were they mega bucks at the time ? Cheers ,Eddie
  14. I was thinking exactly the same thing Paul , as I watched her on Graham Norton show .If only it was true ..........Best ,Eddie
  15. I bought The Independants " I love you , yes I do " because I thought it was The Prophets " I got the fever " .I actually think The Independents is the better record now - so it's not all bad !! Best ,Eddie
  16. Thanks guys , the writing is red , so it's a boot .Only cost £1 tho' .Also got a nice white demo of Rosemary - Popcorn Wylie on Karen , which I think is a boot , but looks nice , and an Archer stamped Eddie Parker on Ashford for £1 each as well .Think the Eddie Parker is the 2nd release as the Archer stamp is small , and not raised .Also got a pile of other stuff for 50p including a Willie Kendrick " Change your ways " on Fox records.Obviously a boot / reissue , but when did this sneak out as I've never seen it before .It has Dean Courtney and The Carstairs [ sorry Pete !! ] on the flip side .Yes Pete Marrs Bar , see you on the 19th .Best ,Eddie
  17. I found a white demo on this label this weekend , ever booted on a WD ? Thanks for any help ,Cheers ,Eddie
  18. I mean at the time mate ,you're not concentrating !! Best ,Eddie
  19. Does it mean just chasing the big money rarities , or buying up potential monsters that used to be big or are underplayed / forgotten , and can now be purchased for say under £50 ? Food for thought ? Cheers ,Eddie
  20. I sold one on here for £25 last week .Cheers ,Eddie
  21. Cheers Ady and Tabs , only about 3 years old when played then ? That would be a Modern Soul record now Cheers ,Eddie

Clyde McPhatter brilliant Richard ,I've got it on his ace " Sounds of the big city " LP.Best ,Eddie
  23. Don't think it's the same Jeff King - I asked him !! Fuller Bros must have been virtually a new release when it was played ? What year was it released ? Cheers ,Eddie
  24. Wasn't Cigarette ashes - Jimmy Conwell one of the first big money records ? Sure I read in Dave Godin's column in B& S that someone , think it was Keith Minshull had paid around £80 for it , though that does sound a lot of money for the time [ early 70's ? ] Best ,Eddie
  25. The Crimson label for " I've had it " by Lee Andrews , and the multi coloured release label for The Flirtations " Stronger than her love " [Festival ].Best ,Eddie
