Renovating a Sitar ...painters advice please
Hey friends I bought a nice old Indian Sitar see photos with a huge crack on the base (Toomba) Repaired the base traditional method, but for the paint job, (not my field) what is the painting method, I think it's stained or some sort of enamel or lacquer, it seems pretty hardcore, like a nail varnish, I've sanded down my repairs but the original paintwork is unaffected. So my question is can it be painted over at all, (new.paint job) using a primer, or is a spray can best? Its aold so I would t use an elec sander on it. The areas where I've sanded the original paint isn't even scratched. Thanks Sean

Residency available Barton upon Humber
Hello all, there is a residency, in Barton on Humber North Lincolnshire, just across from the Humber Bridge..a cushy number in a really nice venue a higher end restaurant which has been established 5 years- what they need is for a DJ with old school funk edged tastes, (funk n fizz will be the night) though I think there will be a bit of artistic licence and freedom. Could be lucrative but that deal is for the owners and djs to agree upon. The venue will be table service the gig will be on a Friday or Saturday, for now they want a mobile DJ with own gear to handle it. It's going to be a tasteful affair aimed at the 35/55 age groups i can't do it, as no van and commitments but I said I'd fish around. For more details inbox me and I'll pass numbers and email on. If anyone is interested-maybe inbox me or reply here.

Out in Krakow
I should have asked before I went but are there any other record shops worth dropping into.in Krakowa. I was in Dillaz record store today and picked up some Polish jazz funk..very cheap really, first press mainly...pressings are appearing of old albums but in limited quantae , however they are snapped up by an eager public here on release, ( there are so many sample breaks in the 70s stuff) , so the big Q is/was anywhere else I should squeeze in during my stay. .word up, vintage is getting huge here, Eastern Blok grannies selling their gear and making a killing off it, deffo worth a visit. Just by luck I found another record store, which the former wouldn't recommend to me, Pauls Boutique, in the old Jewish quarter. I was very surprised to find six racks of motown and disco singles, Gordy, nothing much before 1964, someone needs to have a proper rake through it. I put aside two hours, being disciplined for once. Not a great amount, some crackers, Willie Hutch even, but definitely shed loads of 80s hip hop funk (UK boots as you'd imagine) soul and Polish Communist era Jazzfunk, singles and albums. All the singles without exception needed a good wash, and some are slightly off centre -but at 4 zloty a pop whose complaining-mainly albums are repressed which is actually better in many cases as the materials used in the 70s was not of a great quality, I was informed. However I found some original stuff and funky bits of 7s on the Tenpress label from the 80s-worth looking at. Warsaw next time for a couple of days is probably one of my finer ideas.

Ted Massey Robbery Records Stolen
Not good at all that. Hope he recovers from this, aggressive entry to his house, that's heavy sentencing. They could have done much worse. That guy looks ginger, pony tail maybe or thickly crimped/curly hair as for the tattoo doesn't it look about like the outline of a Wolves FC badge, maybe removed or covered over for the robbery? Now that it's been on the BBC all kinds of scumbags will looking at the prices and be saying how f*cking much, and I can see similar crimes unfortunately, maybe people out to tighten up security for a little while. Watch Auction Rooms for any movement as.well, I know boxes have been nicked in recent years at the odd nights but this surely is a first. And yep a high level well planned robbery, not just random. Any idea on the accents.amd descriptions of the other rats

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer, appreciated! Re the Mayking, great info, I'm trying to find out a bit more about him, the records have Ted's Retirement Fund written on the sleeves..so they are boots rather than demos, I'll give seller heads-up. Cheers Sean

Grayson Perry’s The Full English C4 (inc Northern Soul Segment ) Ep3 Thur 9th Feb 9-10pm
It is interesting. I wonder who (s)he'll dig up, the cynical side of me says this will be another hatchet job/piss take attempted nail in the coffin like Mr Flouncy and his moves on that dance show a few years back. The non cynical side of me says this will open up the world of Northern soul to an expantant new aud.... Anyone know who's in it?

Naps. Though I did wake up one night to an insane Irish woman ranting at me about nodding off.

- Gospel Botherers Real or Fake
Top ticket on this, lovely track, but has it been booted, is it a boot? HSS 107 V in the DW L.Nix Ardent.raised bevel, looks a bit new....price £100 Update....from the collection of Ted, who had some involvement flogging records to Malcolm McLaren and the Pistols at SEX on King's Rd.and had a recording studio. He's selling up and has half a ton of test pressings which I saw in the shop today, including a TP of Maggot Brain with all the spiel. (Mayking Records) There's two versions of this one with a different flip. Erring on the side of caution thanks Seanio- Amerie Just One Thing Modern RnB
Just listening to this, decent enough on its own right, what's the sample, it threw me into something much older. Is it Monica? https://youtu.be/bbqVg_23otg- Card sleeves 7 inch.
Hello my go to shop is Spin-It vinyl in Hull they seem a lot cheaper than some of the replies-Im sure 20 for a fiver or summat like that-I find they fit like a glove-than in the noble replies last time I looked, and he posts records, either get in touch yourself, Spin It Hull, Steves a nice guy to deal with, he's very sociable. Obv things might have gone up over the winter. He has a great selection of soul albums and 12s as well. USe the phone number hes slower on the page. spinithull@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/spinithull- Head On The Block Might As Well As Not :)
Just some fun sets, before mixcloud becomes too bitter in the mouth, variety of stuff-I do intend to stick to one subsection but I tend to wander!!! Feel free to throw bad fruit at will... So old soul, funk, new soul new releases and some headscratchers, just soulful... first track on this hm...anyhoo, theres a few.- Trying to find non Soul related sales
Are they on here, are they allowed, many thanks SMD- Royal Mail tells people not to send post abroad due to..
Maybe a risk from online orders surely, 12 days has been average for a record recently, just sit back and wait. However (inland) I sent three hefty volumes on the Great War, second class, and wrote on the back of the package 'We support the postal strike and workers rights', and it turned up the very next day! So I did it again and it worked again!- Hearing Unexpected Music In Unexpected Places!
Its the Spotify lists, amazing how varied some peoples tastes are, unless in places like Tesco, where I've heard Terry Callier, its marketing aimed at the over 50s which a bulk of us are, who are especially in these times, wealthier.- UPS I'm sure we've been down this lane before
Trying to freight a heap of records. Do you have to pay them extra to pick up the boxes (private address) I paid for the labels and shipping so that should be it right? They now want me to generate a pick up? Is this just for a timed pick up? Cant get a straaight answer out of them Im sure a few people in the group must have had the experience.- BBC Northern Soul Dance Competition take
Lovely lass and dances well, she is a great performer, good singer too.- Looking at travelling for 6 months
No house for sale, just to clarify I rent it, and the records won't be sold in individual lots, straight to a standard auction house I'm afraid.About 5000 so won't be selling in dribs and drabs as I wouldn't have the time. Hi all Generally as it's records were here for it's more about how to dispose of records or whether it's worth storing them for six months I hear a lot of people selling up and it's a big haul so I would be getting rid in one go, haven't made up my mind yet ...storage seems quite excessive.- Looking at travelling for 6 months
Had enough need to fly off for a while.. Question is do I sell up? Do I put into storage? I'm edging toward common or garden auction, storage seems a pretty high price to pay. Too many to do individual sales. Ideas? - Gospel Botherers Real or Fake
