  10. Posted on behalf of Shane Higgins.... As many of you will know, we lost our good friend Mr Joe Dutton earlier this year. To celebrate the life and times of the great man himself, we are having big party here in Sheffield next Spring. Sunday 1st May 2016 (Bank holiday weekend) Yellow Arch Studios Burton Rd Neepsend, Sheffield http://www.yellowarch.com/ Full details to follow but I can confirm there will be a strong DJ line up playing a wide spectrum of soul music. The King Bee sounds will be well represented alongside Joe's love of all things soulful. We also plan to run an event throughout the afternoon and into the early evening at another venue nearby. This will also feature some great DJs. I will be asking for people to buy tickets as soon as possible once everything is organised. Appreciate your help. Back soon! Shane.

  12. Sad news indeed.....my favourite artist, his songs inspired me to search out the grittier side of soul from an early age. R.I.P Mr Bobby 'Blue' Bland.
  13. Maybe he had one under each.......that could certainly answer a few questions of late...
  14. I believe Mick H has a whole chapter dedicated to him finding a spare copy of the Mello Souls under his left man-boob. Fascinating stuff.....you just couldn't make it up!
  15. I first heard Quicksand at Jim Bates (Platters81) nigh on 25 years ago. I mithered him for months to sell it to me and eventually he caved and let me have it....still got it now, and still love the track as much as ever. R.I.P Kell.
  16. Check out link for a great video on the possible making of a new film about Latin Boogaloo..... http://www.kickstart...-latin-boogaloo Help out if you can, but if you love this music you will love the video clip alone.... site note there was a news item a while back on this project see rest of freebasing news/articles section to read
  17. Was a top night indeed, and well deserved for 2 great guys Mind you, I spoke to Karl about 6pm Saturday evening and his head was right in the shed By the way he was going on you have thought he had rewired & recarpeted the place before opening as well as wittling new furniture from a couple of local oak trees with nowt but the use of a penknife Though the highlight of the night had to be seeing Beggsy and Rimmers faces when they first went the bar before the beer arrived. I'm sure Beggsy nearly went into shock Had to leave around 4ish cus Des wasn't feeling too well. He'd had chest pains and a numb left arm the week before and neither Beggsy nor I had any breakdown cover on us, so didn't fancy being stuck on the M6 if Mr Parker threw a seven on the way home.
  18. Rather a 'type' than a 'Forester' be...... See ya'll saturday
  19. I reckon running just 4 times a year is what this venue always needed , and think you guys will hit the floor running Karl Heard...musician, DJ and now a promoter....is there no end to this mans talents Bet he's shit in the sack mind.......
  20. Well he has sold a few records lately so maybe he'll do you a good price on a shirt and and a pair of trousers I have a sneaky feeling Mr Bicknell knew exactly what he was doing when he started this thread.... Right, I'm off to bed.
  21. Just cus I love a bit of Latin don't mean I wanna speak it (Ya big poncy show-off)
  22. Not really. Telling a credible DJ such as Rob Smith to play what he wants doesn't mean he will lose all common sense on how to put a great set together and just play random tunes regardless of genre and tempo. It means that DJs like Rob get to play stuff they rarely get the chance to play. It means that you don't have to stick to the tried and tested tunes or let the dancefloor reaction govern what you play. It also gives the dancers a chance to decide if they like a tune or not, instead of spoonfeeding them the same old same old....surely that must be the laziest way to DJ? As for confusing advertising music policies, I don't think I can be any clearer with what we offer and deliver at Bidds.
