Latin - Love It Or Hate It
Quite hard to find the Fania release with 'Magic Rose' on flip, as is the Fania release of 'What good is a castle' with the far superior 'PT 2' that also didn't get included on the flip of the Uptite release. 'Magic Rose' did, however, get released on Uptite, but the artist name is Naatab (Bataan backwards of course)

Pretty sure Beggsy had a spare a while ago, but he's probably got rid by now. Hard one to find on 45.

Johnny Beggs has been playing Black Sugar for a while at Bidds, I'll ask him to do you a Latin CD mate.

Latin - Love It Or Hate It
Love hearing good quality Latin, so long as its English lyrics or instrumentals. I like to hear a few mixed in with a good set of uptempo Northern and R&B though, so not sure how a full night of it will work mind.......wish you all the best with it Warren. It does crack me up when people say certain genres of soul music ain't Northern Soul.....I think the thread on 'white' Northern tunes typifies just how broad a spectrum of music the Northern scene celebrates, and Latin does play, and has played a part (no matter how small) in the big picture of the scene. Unless you still wanna pretend that Bobby Valentin is Rex Garvin that is...

I'll take that as a back peddle then I honestly don't know either way Joe, and besides baiting you for fun I would actually be interested to know if it was credited as Mongo on the Disc Jockey release? Either way, it's gotta be Fania or nowt imo, so fook it....

My wig is firmly in place....I have had a latin track on the Disc Jockey label with pic sleeve but think it was Ray Barretto 'Soul Drummers'. Even so... are you still sure its Mongo and not Monguito?
-
Values Please - More Help Please
Joe, European one on Pink Elephant on Popsike went for £36 in 2005. Artist is Monguito not Mongo. Not one to gloat but......

50% hike in 2 years...robbing get Was a £30+ record in the 90s Joe, you did well at £20.......
-
Values Please - More Help Please
Are you sure about that....I have had it (though thought it was Belgium tbh) and pretty sure it was Monguito? Also got released on a mod 3 track boot as Mongo Bongo or something similar....perhaps that's the one you have with a nice self crayoned pic sleeve
-
Values Please - More Help Please
Probably right on price of pic sleeve, but it's on a lable called Pink Elephant or something shite. Rather pay £50 for a Fania anyday. ....but then you always have been a cheapskate....

P.S. Think Mongo and Monguito are different artists Great name Mongo, good job he didn't go school over here eh

They turn up now and again, I believe John Weston has just started spinning it in his sets. It was a massive tune on the mod scene in the 90s. Pretty sure I've had it on on a Europen pic sleeve in the past, on a diff label, but you just can't beat a nice Fania copy....got an issue meself, which seem so much scarcer than WDs. Craig Moerer had a few VG+ copies a while ago for $50. Good latin is just hard to find full stop, don't know where the f*ck it all is to be honest..certainly not easy to find any of it in the States never mind over here.

Values Please - More Help Please
The Mike Pedicin repros are white demos......a dealer sold an issue in Allentown for $650, he originally had $900 on it, so £350 seems about right. Oh, and it's not Mongo Santamaria, it's Monguito Santamaria...just to help you with the google/ebay search , and I'd say more like £50 than £30.

Junior Mccants Sells For $15,099 On Ebay
Whilst both top bidders were obviously willing to pay what they bid, this scenario was always waiting to happen on ebay, where 2 people bid and snipe extremely high to ensure they win, whilst presuming, hoping & praying that the bidding will never actually go that high. Bet the seller nearly crapped himself with exitement in the last few seconds mind....

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
I wish.....we usually get around 130 - 150 in, with 180-200 on good nights. From the few times I've been Burnley I'd say Phil gets similar numbers, and before Lifeline moved to Wolves I believe they were roughly the same. I've purposely promoted Bidds to be different, hence booking some DJs who will include a fair percentage of R&B and Latin in the sets, and even though it is a predominately 60s night, if DJs wanna play beyond that then thats up to them......but the result is, that will always comes at a price cus it's not everybodies cup of tea, and if I'm honest, I'm not bothered about having masses of new faces attend the club if it means the music policy has to change to appease them. That isn't meant to sound snobbish, elitist or such, truth is, I could probably fill Bidds 3 times over if I ran it as a more commercial allnighter, but that's not what I want to pursue, and besides which, there are plenty of those events battling for overcrowded slots on the calender as it is.

Still Wanted Buddy Ace Screaming Please Duke Demo
Got a spare one somewhere, but seem to remember that it may play slightly hissy as Michael mentioned. Will try and find it and have another listen. Regards Mace

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
You're right, its not about him not being bothered, hence why I said he was being more selective...and nowt wrong with that, but if he doesn't want to do certain events then that's his decision, but that then accounts for a good percentage of events not having his name down as the main DJ. Wage scales for DJs on this scene are embarassing, I totally agree......but if you wanna pull away from the oldies scene and do something different the market audience and resulting attendance figures are a lot lower, and costs a lot harder to cover...so yes, it could make the difference between breaking even for some clubs. As for name DJs boosting attendance figures, well, it is sad to say that I personally don't think any one DJ has a major impact on attendance figures nowadays....moreso the whole package of DJ list/venue/location/personal finances tends to govern attendance figures imo. Coupled with fact that there are far more events to choose from, easier access to what were 'unavailable' tunes via the net etc....whatever, but less people tend to travel the hundreds of miles they used to. I tend to agree with most of your original post, but I still think you made a somewhat sweeping statement regarding Butch and his bookings at many allnighters. Regards Mace
-
O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Butch is resident at 4 main allnighters, not just 2 (Lifeline/100 Club/Keele/Kings Hall) though I suppose you could argue that his playlist is more restricted at Kings Hall than the first 3. However, Butch has also chosen to be far more selective at which venues he DJs at, and coupled with the fact that he ain't cheap to book, means that many promoters can't either get him or afford him....so it's not just down to the scene, or indeed promoters, that he is not DJing as often as you believe he should be. Regards Mace

Soul Renaissance
Opposite sides of the plane though...something to do with equalizing weight distribution to prevent wing tilt and circling the Atlantic....anyway my nickname ain't fancy..... Perhaps its Killa, there's a nickname a few on the northern scene might fancy Is it a good idead to have a dig at someone nicknamed Killa mind....even though he's only 3 foot nothing, he might chew your kneecaps off to fatten himself up P.S. can't comment on mag content cus ain't read it. Beggsy wants to know if it's available in large print like the literature from banks etc Do agree in naming names mind...having opinions is fine, but putting it in print, whether in a mag or posting on forums etc without naming names is quite pointless .......other than being mischevious (nowt I'd know about mind )

Is that because it's 'probably' booked out solid most Sundays ...what with Burslem being the thriving hotspot that it is on Sunday afternoons
