Martha Reeves - No One There - Tmg 843
Wasn't it Bob Burton, He sold off his records around the time he was DJ ing at Warrington.I got a few things from him, "Broadway Express" which at the time was a Ben E King C/U. I tried to get the Martha Reeves off him and he said he would never sell it. He didn't have it with him the last time i seen him cos he was in jail doing a long stretch for hijacking. Great DJ was Bob and Warrington Parr Hall one of the best nighters ever. Tomo

Ray Crumley On Alarm
I searched for this track for ages and then got two within weeks of each other, sold my spare to Paul Mooney for a tenner. It is hard to find but suprised that it reached $250. I think if the ebay auction didn't have a soundbite he wouldn't have got more than $20. Tomo

Ty Karim Or Not
The b side of Ty Karim's "Keep on doing" on Sheridan House is by "Ty & Towana". Which would suggest they are two different people. Towana Hill also had a track on the same label. I was told Towana is Ty's sister. Tomo

Best Venue In Scotland Ever
Allanton at Shotts was a great nighter. Had a memorable 21st birthday there. A record that always reminds me of that night is Tootsie Rollers - Give me love - Me-o. Covered up at the time as Silky Hargreaves i think. Always had a good night north of the border and a trip back is long overdue. Tomo

The Best Retro Soul Song Ever
Yes they were on Acid Jazz, haven't heard all there stuff but i know they had a few albums out. I've listened to a few soundbites on the web and it sounds like a right old mixture of stuff. Strange looking band too. Tomo

The Best Retro Soul Song Ever
Wizards Of Ooze - Trippin' . Done by a punky Belgian band in the 90s. Sounds like Curtis Mayfield from mid 70s. Tomo

At The Top Of The Stairs
Did they record anything else? What's the Formations story? Knowledge gap needs filling here! link

Paul Macnamara
Went underground over a year ago when he got caught pinching records from me. It's funny you mention him cos i've just been thinking of him whilst on the punch bag at the gym. Every dog has his day. Tomo

Wanted - Mel & Tim - Forever & A Day - Stax
Theres no difference between the album and 45 version, exactly the same from start to finish. For those searching for it, it's actually the b-side of "That's the way ..." Tomo

Eddie Parker & Lorraine Chandler
Definately wasn't the dolphin centre. They had stopped doing them there before 85. The buildings still there and last time i passed it was called the Plastered Parrot. It was a small venue, upstairs on the first floor. Tomo

Eddie Parker & Lorraine Chandler
Jamesy, I think it was called something like The Durlia or delia club. I was 16 years old and only been to a few allnighters before that night, also the first live acts i'd seen. Was it Chris King who introduced the acts and mentioned that it was a poor turn out for two Detroit legends. He was pissed off that another soul night was on in Newcastle the same night. Much better turn out the following night at Stafford. 1985, was it really twenty years ago. Memories i'll never forget. I found this soundbite a few months back of Eddie Parker singing "I'm Gone" at stafford. Check it out, sounds amazing. https://freespace.virgin.net/mark.e.jones/E...20live!.htm Tomo

Tony Joe White
Possibly "soulful eyes" I think it's on warner Bros. Sounds like a white Walter Jackson in parts. I've got an MP3 somewhere on my computer, i'll have a look. Give me your email and i'll send it to you. Tomo

Herman Hitson
I'm sure i've heard that the Herman Hitson acetate is actually a guy called Nate Adams. He has a 45 on Atlantic called "I'm gonna be good". I'll have to try and listen to them both to see if the voice is the same. In the 70s film Superfly, Nate Adams comes up in the credits as one of the drug dealers. Only presuming that theres a link between these three things. Ohio Players version is on the Trip album called "Superpak". Tomo

Modern Soul On Ebay
Mike Charlton from Boro discovered the Curtis Anderson track. He came back from the states with about a dozen of them but left 100+. I think he sorted a deal for the rest of them then something went wrong and they never surfaced. I'd think you'd be taking a risk paying big money for it. £750 on manships auction. If these have been turning up lately, has somebody found the lot Mike left behind ? Donald Albert version can be picked up for around £15. Tomo

Mark Iv - Otb Yes Please
The 7 mins version on the twelve is basically Part 1 and Part 2 from the 45 joined together. The b-side is pts 1 & 2, so you get the 7" version on the back of the twelve. If i was gonna DJ with it i'd stick to the short version. I'd say without any doubt that it's much rarer than the 45, which is not the case with the Brite Lite release. Tomo
