Well what a sad day it was-but a corker of a service a real laugh from start to finish The guy conducting the service told it like it was -200 inside and at least another 400 outside-maybe more A larger than life person and the word "unconventional" seem to crop up more times through out the service than anything else, -constant feed back from the sound system whenever something was mentioned personal to Dean sent glances and laughs towards the coffin-when Bev was asked what it was like living with dean for 24 years her answer was "Shit" but she'd give anything for another 24 ! Even Deans last request was to have his ashes scattered at the place he was most happy-Wigan Casino-was met with laughter as "Its now a shopping centre" "How are we going to get away with that ! "the service end with 3 cheers for Dean hip hip horray" Even at the Talbot pub for the wake they had bouncers on the door as Mansfield most notorious were in ! Arrived back from Germany so better start some serious work on our own gig. Just a little over 9 weeks away and I am concentrating on the weekender Magazine, a full Colour A4 Glossy event guide with features and adverts for soul gigs throughout the UK and beyond. Looks like this years effort will go to 36 pages, if you have never seen one yet, we do it in the style of a soul magazine like Manifesto -we also hope (we get excellent feedback) its a good read when you get home from the weekender as well. The guide is given FREE to all who attend the Bridlington Weekender 25th June to 27th June-so around 2,300 + will get a copy. We are currently looking for a couple of features to use relating to Soul music (Modern /Northern / Crossover) or about the Scene in your area-(note NOT JUST YOUR CLUB-but a broad over view of what is going on in your locality) We also have advertising space for sale in the mag-it helps to pay towards the printing costs as well £££ Phew! Very sad news-been in Germany all weekend at Baltic Soul-I'm sure last time i saw him was at the Attic early on (with Paul Wheatcroft ?)-or may have been East Kirby- Dean was younger than us I think 48 ?-I've certainly seen him in the last 2 years-(and that was after 20 years or so) I will try my best to get to Mansfield Crematorium -on nights Friday night-but fingers crossed RIP Dean Rob & Karen
