  1. Know what you mean. One of the Charly reissues of Don Varner - Tearstained Face did this, vocal on one channel only, it was easy to make an inst out of it but...it was crap without the vocal. Also did a really nice and absolutely perfect instrumental of When I'm Gone about 15 years ago, again using a version with the vocal in one channel only.
  2. After I listed this yesterday for £75 and reserved it, I had about 10 other calls for it, one of which offered £125 for me not to sell it to the first guy. £50 difference!
  3. People tried to make their own decisions on this thread except they were told not to
  4. The Catacombs - right on the doorstep but closed when I was 14 so just missed it (in fact part of it may actually BE my doostep )
  5. Main list updated again, don't mind taking lower offers on any remaining, I can only say no
  6. It's by Spix & Spax or something very similar and I'm guessing any dj who played it nowadays would be burned at the stake. £3 maximum. NIce little tune actually...
  7. Not quite true, the boots of the other Modern label tracks were good but Bitter Into Sweet was dubbed off a very scratchy record and pretty poor in comparison
  8. Not always Ady. I did it on Timi Yuro and it almost wiped the vocal and left everything intact, in fact it sort of bought the strings even further forward in the mix - this was using a $100 karaoke program I got off a dodgy website (it was the bees knees then but that was 5 years ago, there's bound to be a better one out now)
  9. Does anyone have these please or could point me to them: thanks in advance It's Gonna Take Love I'm About To Say Goodbye both by jimmy Armstrong
  10. It's possible but you need to have the track in stereo to start with
  11. Yeah it was, that's the one I couldn't think of

I think it is a drill that was used (makes sense, otherwise it'd be like clay pigeon shooting - next record, PULL!) but they are called BB holes because they are the same size as a BB hole.
  13. Updated, plus there's one addition DOUGLAS GIBSON & THE SWEET & SOURS - RUN FOR YOUR LIFE - TRC DEMO Monster version of Harrison Brothers - same backing M- £50
  14. Yeah I might do another photo session, I melted half of the last copy on the gas ring...

    You are correct Derek.

  20. Reluctant sale of this fantastic 6 cd box set from Rhino, released in 1997. The packaging is worth the price itself. Each disc has a fascimile label of a classic logo and is mounted on a record shaped card. It comes with a booklet and a great set of cards featuring period photos of the artists and biogs etc. And of course it all comes in a mini record box. Long out of print, I remember this costing me about £70 at the time plus the customs got hold of it and I ended up paying another £30 in duty. That was 10 years ago mind. See the photos and read the reviews and if you're tempted I'm looking for £115 for this. Amazon have them at up to $315 (over £155) Six CDs, and 144 songs, of classic '60s soul, including selections by every major performer in the idiom (except for Sam Cooke and Sly Stone, who were unavailable for licensing reasons), as well as numerous influential minor performers, one-shot artists, and just plain unknowns. The music is classic, and the packaging is an event in itself, with the discs enclosed in a mock briefcase for carrying 45 singles, and trading cards for each song on the volume that have photos and trivia questions on front, and mini-essays on the back. Yet it ultimately occupies a rather perplexing space on the collector's shelf. Anyone who's enough of a soul lover to fork over the dough for this production will no doubt have a good many of the tunes already, particularly the Hall of Fame hits like "Sweet Soul Music," "(I Know) I'm Losing You," "Don't Make Me Over," and "La-La-Means I Love You." There are numerous great rarities here -- Jay Wiggins' magnificent melancholy ballad "Sad Girl," and the rare original versions of "Shake a Tail Feather" (the Five Du-Tones), "Tainted Love" (Gloria Jones), "Mustang Sally" (Sir Mack Rice), and "Piece of My Heart" (Erma Franklin). Yet the tracks used to represent some superstars -- "You've Been in Love Too Long" for Martha & the Vandellas, or "Fly Me to the Moon" for Bobby Womack -- seem almost deliberately idiosyncratic, even though this method also yields underrated off-the-beaten-tracks by Ray Charles ("In the Heat of the Night"), Al Green ("Back Up Train"), and others. It's almost as if some guys stayed up several nights running trying to make the ultimate '60s soul party tape -- one which demonstrated both their impeccable taste and the depth of their record collection -- and got so carried away with the idea that a box set resulted. Like all well-made party tapes, the content is excellent, but the sum is neither a definitive '60s soul box (an impossible task in any case), nor one which offers quite enough lost classics to justify its hefty price tag for those who already have half or more of the tunes. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide Link to Amazon where a new copy is up at $314.98 https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...p;condition=new
  21. Got my record through saturday before I even paid for it, now that's trust for you, immaculate mint copy of Doris Troy at a bargain price - so I know it's not Ebay but I would highly recommend this seller to everyone. Wish I'd had more now.
  22. Sorry, missed this the other day but I did sell both, sorry about that
  23. Pete.smith@freeuk.com 01902 893569 This is a complete set of the Grapevine label Northern 45's. Most are in excellent or mint condition. A couple are VG+ and one has a bit of writing on the label, otherwise it's a near perfect set. Looking at £400 or nearest offer.
