  1. I have to disagree with you. I like Northern Soul, not Soul. Wouldn't want to confuse people.
  2. You lot...you don't half bite when I dangle the bait! Yes I hate modern and crossover but I like the odd one or two, if you like them then fine, I know where to go to avoid it so it's no problem, couple of my favourite records are certainly not northern (Diane Jenkins/Towana & Total Destruction) but I personally like to hear 60's northern and if they are going to play 70's then it would have to be Cleethorpes style 70's (east coast connection, norma jenkins, the gig, willie j & co) which still has a 4-4 beat. No offence meant to anyone, ever, when we're on this subject, I just like to see what happens
  3. Luau records, 32263 union ave, Cleveland. Had this a couple of times, very hard to get another one, I'd rate it say 200 but price guide only says 80...
  4. Thats because they ought to count themselves lucky they are allowed to listen to their shite music on our "60's music scene". Modern crowd - modern venues. Not Northern venues.
  5. It's a beat ballad Steve, not a northern dancer, and that sort of thing should be played at the end of the night.

Maybe the second guy had already bid 3000 but it only showed up whenever he was outbid, so say it was at 1200, then another guy bid 1250, it would keep increasing automatically every time until it got to guy number 2's 3000 bid. Thing with those auctions though, instead of having a closing time, every time someone bids it stays open for a number of minutes.
  8. Someone mentioned him just now. This chap I met a few years ago gave me a reel to reel tape recorder plus a box of about 20 reel to reel tapes, all of which contain Mike Raven's soul show from radio circa 1969-70, plus a handwritten notebook where he's written down every track played. I've played three or four but only one had the dj intact, the rest had been paused and restarted just to get the music. Is this sort of thing of interest to anyone? I could probably set it up to record off the tape onto cd. Honestly, I've only listened to the first few cos I moved at that time and never got them out again.
  9. What about it?
  10. Simple - it's catchy and people enjoy dancing to it. That is the bottom line of any record on this scene, you have to be able to dance to it, if not, why is it being played?
  11. Sorry, I'd keep the R&B and remove the crossover as well as modern. In fact, crossover is even worse than modern because it's no particular style, just watered down northern. At least R&B is the roots of soul and not the roots of disco.
  12. Why not just shoot all dj's who play modern???

Thing is, I didn't think there was any way of getting round Monarchs dating system and the number on the yellow pressings matches that of the demo...weird
  14. How about £40 and a copies of Oceans 12, Polar Express and Buttmans Big Tit Adventure??

Sold mine to Dave Flynn for £75, now if he hadn't got it it must be rare - I've only ever had that one - I'd say about £125 on that one.

Everyone thinks it was booted but all the yellow copies that were being sold were in fact originals...if you check the delta number you'll see it dates it to 5 years earlier. It's common on yellow, but last few I've sold have gone for 30-40 quid, two years ago I was still selling them for a fiver. Best is to go for a white demo.
  18. I think you might be right there Christian. Thanks a lot
  19. Thats a really well known one mate, even came out on UK London. Chuck Jackson was in the group. Classsic.
  20. No this is definitely a 100 mph thing mate, it was a yellow label, I got it off Chris Johnson in Florida, wonder what happened to him??
  21. Well it might be one of those...better not be Bobby bennett, Tim Brown lists it at £1000, I wouldn't have sold it for more than £30
  22. I had this about 4 years back, can't remember what it was called or what I did with it, but it was on the V-Tone label and it had exactly the same backing track as The Butlers - She tried to kiss me.
  23. Heres 3 typical examples mate, a large percentage is new orleans influenced
