The Brits
Name's not Chippy but back in the early 70's, staying out all night alone was considered "rebellious", let alone any of the other baggage that went with being seriously on the Northern scene.

Dee Dee Warwick - Where Is That Rainbow - Value Please?
Just seen one for sale at £60 - is this right? I've got one I was going to list, NM, US Mercury, still in company sleeve. Sounds high to me.

No it's only superficial mate, it offers little or no protection, if I send a record in a jiffy bag I put 3 or 4 pieces of card inside.

Also, if you send a record by registered mail, in a mailer, and it breaks - you will NOT be compensated - unless you have put that mailer inside a jiffy bag. The guy who had his registered Barbara McNair TMG demo snapped in half lost his case, exactly because of that reason. It's in their small print somewhere.

Man, my prozac must be wearing off, I'd better up the dose

Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
It's on the B side of the Outasite release mate, or it could have come from Pete's Vinyl Carver Collection 2009

Wow, so because you're young and into it we all have to doff our cap to you and say thank you for saving the Northern soul scene. Guess what, we were all young once, we had to start somewhere, and we had to earn respect, that was done by gradual working our way up through the scene not coming in and gobbing off and telling everyone that it's our fault that the scene is falling to bits. I couldn't give a f*cking f*ck if there are kids on the scene or not. Bring something to the table, earn the respect, don't tell people in their 50's we should respect you just for turning up and wearing a few patches.

Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
Right I've just played it. Paul, you're right, it starts off with a minute's worth of ad libbing, then goes back to the regular instrumental version, with Saxy doing a few ad libs. Vocalist comes back in with more ad lib vocals, can barely make out a word he says. This is 100% definitely taken off the acetate, it's the same quality recording as the one I had.

Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
From what I remember, it's mainly instrumental

You never used to get proof that they had received it, it was just signed for at the airport! It might be better now, being tracked a bit further. The alternative is airsure, costs slightly more but I think it is signed for all the way to the door

Wrong side of Town
I can sell you one if you like..

Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
It's the same version I think mate. I probably do have it, but it will take some finding.

Saxie Russell : Psychedelic Soul Part 3
Yeah this turned up on an acetate on ebay four or so years ago, full version too, I recorded it there and then.

Re The Brits. Hate that Get Lucky song. Really like the Happy song after my son drove me mad with it. Loved the performance of it last night, very 'feel good' and who cares if there were Northern dancers in it, that just made it better. And God Bless David Bowie.

A friend of mine who lives in France told me that it is definitely not the French postage system which is to blame, it's the individual people trying to rip sellers off. He says there is very little wrong with the system, he's just embarrassed about the reputation France has got due to dodgy ebay buyers.

Yeah there's a kind of 10p add on to most of those mate. I am fairly easy with postage, half the time if it's expensive I pay the postage myself as way of a discount for the buyer. European post isn't as bad as people think by the way, since I've been on Discogs I've sent to places like Russia uninsured with no problems. But I always point out that it's at their own risk if they don't want to pay for insurance.

Post is pretty easy really. For a single in the UK, £1.20 first class is fair, £2.50 recorded. For a single overseas, charge £4 to Europe and £5 elsewhere. Add on £5 for tracked delivery. An LP in the UK costs £4.10 to send 1st recorded. Overseas, should be around £5.50 to Europe, £7 elsewhere.

The Task Ahead Of Me Is Huge
Yeah what it is, someone is compiling all the singles and putting them out as downloads, one every 3 days or so. So no Piccadilly or Pye International, just Pye. Obviously I've got stacks of these already as I had all of the Sequel releases when they owned the catalogue, but there's still lots of barely known stuff.

'van Dykes - Save My Love'
Well done mate, saved £100 there

Del-Larks/mel Britt
Yes he did. But his product is superb. I think most people know Wigan Bob wasn't being serious though.

The Task Ahead Of Me Is Huge
Pye records - really famous UK label of the 50's, 60's and 70's. Released some crap, released some great stuff. Over the next few days, I have to - well I don't have to - I am about to go through 35 cd's full of Pye singles, in order, from 1954 onwards. And they only go up to the end of 1965 so I am "eagerly awaiting" the remaining volumes up to 1970. Wish me luck and I will save all the good stuff and turn it into podcasts or whatever. p.s. Following this I have 29 volumes of UK HMV to do.

Northern Tracks That Don't Fade Out

New Soul Film
As far as publicity goes, I don't think they could have done any better than getting it onto the BBC festival, good work. (Sorry this is off topic but it's about film extras. My friend Andy was an extra in one of the later Star Wars movies. He was on set for 2 days and played a stormtrooper. He was uncredited in the film. But on one of these Star Wars nerd sites, they have him down as appearing in it, and apparently a photo of him as well. How did they get that?)
