Another collection of 60's classics, all dubbed from 45's, as you will be able to tell from the dubious sound quality of the Boris Gardner instrumental "Never My Love", but it's a very rare tune and one I've not seen on other podcasts so thought it was worth including. There are a couple of rare Treasure Isle 45's, "Funky Beat" and the original UK 45 of "It's You I Love", I prefer the pure rocksteady version released years later but again, it's not been compiled very often so I thought I'd include it here. I don't know really - but I do know that the example that I quoted, Del Davis, is a reggae record and not a soul record by a reggae artist.

I don't know about suspect but it is good manners and is actually site policy to introduce yourself first...if people know who they are dealing with they are more likely to buy

Who's ever said Glen Miller is a reggae record? It's a Jamaican soul record, there's thousands of them. And of course it came out 2 years before the term reggae had even been coined.

That's odd because neither of those, the one I posted and the one you posted, are the same as the one I recorded off the radio and was trying to find for years - neither are as good! I know "New dawn" is really old hat now but that was the first record to sample it and at the time it worked really well.

That will be way way harder to come by, I used to collect the Collins Downbeat label and it is very tough, I think I only have one left now (an Owen Gray 45) but it's not the one you want unfortunately. Sir Collins seems to have licensed 3 backing tracks from Bunnie Lee and milked them for all their worth, they each appear three or four times over the labels very short life.

I think Russ is right, does sound like something that would sound great played out loud, the intro is the killer, you can see why there'd be a rush to the dancefloor on hearing it but then it's all downhill as it rapidly becomes boring. Heard a lot worse but compared to it's ancestors of the same ilk (Prince George etc) it's nowhere near as good. Still good...but not great

Doubt if it's original I'm afraid - there's a styrene boot and a vinyl one, both are extremely good, there's a full topic on here about this record if anyone can find it. If I had a quid for every one of these I've been offered as original, I'd have about 10 quid now...a delta number is a five or six digit number preceeded by a triangle by the way.

Dave I was going by what you said "Ansel Collins wasn't at the session" and thought you meant he had nothing to do with the track.

This is the same chap who does "Walk away like a winner" on Philips. I had the original Advision acetate of the latter and it was credited to Bob Henry. I remember obtaining / reviewing the Bob Henry "Built like a man" 20 years ago in Beatin Rhythm and this is the first time I've seen it mentioned since then!

My mate said you ought to go by the size and the amoun of man hours put into it, like say the small one may have taken say 4 hours, at £20 an hour, whereas a large one may have taken up to and over 20 hours. I see the artist selling stuff on ebay, some of his originals are relatively cheap, some very expensive, one never made public before painting he has at £200 though it's not as good as the ones in the original set but hey it's a million times better than I could have done. You could come and see them any time you like. I did offer them back to the original artist but again, couldn't really come up with a price, though I said it'd have to be more than £400 for the lot as I've already been offered that. I'll edit the original post and add the sizes to each painting ok.

I don't think that statement is correct, presuming you're talking about Double Barrel? Ansell Collins made the tune, it's him playing on it. He sold it to Winston Riley, who was then able to do anything he liked with it.

Don't understand. All licensed, royalties paid, well known UK reissue company, why would anyone object to these, they aren't made to fool anyone, they have an Outta Site logo for a start.

Same here, should have stayed in the can, a lot of those Steve Mancha/Melvin Davis/Joey Kingfish things on those cd's are obviously early run outs and they sure sound like it.
