  1. Yeah he did pay me a good price for it and in return I never, ever made a copy of it, either on an acetate (it was pre-carvers) or even on a cd. In fact, like a mug I forgot to record it for myself. So I don't see how any other version in circulation can be the same one that Stuart has, unless they found the Motown master of that particular version.

Just that it was being hyped so much by every dealer who had it in stock when in fact it's so lame it might as well be fresh air.
  3. Funny thing is, here's me, a so called UK "expert" and I didn't know it was a British recording which came out here on Fontana! Record Collector value it at £8
  4. It was like a stage name, the Blue Max was a First World War pilot. I think.
  5. Blimey thats cheap, if you didn't sell it, I'll have it!
  6. Seen it go for more than that so probably about right.
  7. I think I had the first copy of this, well the first after Phil Dick who's copy I bought in the early early ebay days circa 2000, it was on a one sided Motown acetate and was a bit worn but soon as I heard it I thought it was fantastic. I played it at one of Simon's brighton alldayers and it did nothing at all. The I sold it to Stuart T a week later. As far as I know, this version has not surfaced again, I may be wrong but the one on the Motown cd is nothing like it and the other one is in too good a sound quality. I also had the fast version of Midnight Johnny on a one sided disc, that was fantastic. Wish I still had bioth of them.
  8. God bless Max, you'll never be forgotten mate. Condolences to the family.
  9. A couple of good tracvks on black label King are June Adams - River keep moving, and The Vogues verskon of Magic Town.
  10. Loads Dave. A dozen maybe. I told you, I don't even look anymore. Just cos you ain't seen em doesn't mean nobody else has.
  11. Thinking about you Max, get well soon mate

Half a million people bought Joe Dolce's "Shaddup You Face", didn't make it any good

  15. I'm on about LP's not 45's: but as for singles, you're right about those. Studio One's commonest, Puppet on a string, Fatty Fatty, Baby (Heptones) Cosxone: Cool Spoon 'yakkety yak', Ram Jam, Get ready it's rocksteady, couple of others. Doctor Bird; Joe White - every night, gaylads as mentioned, Phoenix city etc. Big Shot - well all of Judge Dreads records charted so they're as common as Sweet records. Pat kelly on Gas sold over 40,000 copies.
  16. R & B was owned by Rita & Benny King (aka Isen/Izen) in Stamford Hill. When they shut down in the 80's, they released all back stock onto the market, hence 90% of r&b label records (the black ones) are in great condition. A lot of reggae lp's are cheap. I've bought about a dozen this last week all under £25. There's loads of exceptions though: Big Shot, Bamboo, UK Studio One, UK Coxsone etc. It's the same with every type of collecting; some records are hard to find, others are easy, regardless of date. Theres loads of great, cheap ska on Blue beat and Island. Theres loads of expensive hgreat ska there too though.
  17. An overview of the UK reggae collecting scene in 3 lines, brilliant

Straight from the horses mouth: I just sold an EX UK demo for £180 (I lost £45 on what I Paid for it, thanks ebay) and I sold a VG+ issue for £80 I think it was, 80 or 90 anyway
  19. You're having a laugh Dave, there's loads of these turn up on Ebay UK reggae, I stopped buying them when nobody would take them off me.

I like the video, the song's not very memorable though. That's all I have to say really.
  21. Be off with you, I'm still feeling sick after that horrendous elephant man link you sent me, that was REAL not fake!
  22. Yeah it does, and I'll tell you why, and it's something that bugs me more than anything on here. Person psosts a list of say 10 records. After a while, he sells one, so instead of editing his original post and putting SOLD next to it, he makes a fresh post saying 'so and so record is sold', like it's a f*cking important announcement that we should all know about. This happens every time he sells a record, and consequently every time he sells a record, he goes back to the top. This should be moderated and stopped.
  23. Your sales only stay at the top of the pile until the next sales advert goes up, that's always been a problem. Sometimes it can be an hour or two, sometimes it can be one minute.
  24. you are so right - there are some very ambitious sellers on here sometimes
