Stylus And Cartridges Please Help
Hi Dave It is because of fragility. I find that the stylus can easily be damaged and knocked out of line.I dj every Saturday for 3 hours in a busy club playing vinyl so my needles are constantly being back cued ( not that this causes a problem to the needle ) and sometimes end up in the runout groove, they just generally get knocked about. I cant afford for a needle to be knacked, 3 hrs , 1 deck...... I have also broken needles when inserting a new needle into the cartridge, its usually quite a tight action and even pressure needs to be applied slowly on both sides of the needle. Apart from that, I think that the clarity and sound reproduced from the cartridge, I play a mix of 45s, vintage jazz and latin lps and modern production 12"s, is much better in a club setting than the concorde equivalents. Oh, and the funky metal cases look the business too. Nick.

Venezuelan Latin Lps
After Searling played a northern set to a capacity crowd in the Jazz Room, Baz fe Jazz took over and to a nearly empty room played Willis Jackson' Nurthern like Thurthern' as his first record, the first time I had ever heard, and remains to this day, my favourite jazz dance track.

Venezuelan Latin Lps
I remember the day that I got 'Titos Odyssey' on one of the Venezuelan reissues, I was in heaven. Lots of great stuff too from Alan Riding, his girlfriend was Wendy who went on to do PR for Talking Loud. https://youtu.be/OkxT4pqtTlc

Whats It All About?
Reminds me of the great story about George Melly, jazz singer and self professed surrealist, who , when , approached by a gang of thugs down an alleyway after a gig started to recite this surrealist poem. He reckons that the poem saved his life as they fled thinking 'What the f.....k' Apologies for being off topic but, hey what the f....k.

Northern Soul - A Photographic Journey
Hi Being a professional photographer myself I have enjoyed looking at Brian's images documenting the northern soul scene nowadays.By imaginative use of flash his portraits of both young and old, whether in motion or static,in my eyes, capture the sense of devotion, isolation on the floor yet cameraderie that exists. I always intended to document the scene to some degree when I used to go to allnighters in the 80s but was too busy dancing and enjoying myself. Nowadays I really wish that I had made the effort to get some good images from then,if you look at pics that are posted in members galleries from that era the quality is crap, snapshots shot on low end equipment. Capturing people in motion and not ending up with a 'statue' like direct flash or, alternately blurred image is very difficult and Brian should be applauded for dedicating his skills and time to this project. In the future his images will be the ones that will be archived when most others will be in a box in the garage or lost into countless computer hardrives as most photography ends up nowadays. Nick.

I Was An Inverted Soul Snob Knob
I couldn't agree with you more.Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 'Nowhere to Run'. The power and nuances of this song never fails to do it for me. A perfect example of a tune which could be passed by through 'soul snobbery'.

Night Closers?
Not a soul record but, to a mixed crowd, you cant beat Fleetwood Mac ' The Chain'. I ended the night with it on Saturday and when the bassline comes in,ie the Grand Prix theme tune, the place went ballistic. Approx 200 people singing 'Da da da da dada dada da da'. https://youtu.be/pcawnRIyeok

This has always worked for me, and at 7mins 39 secs gives the floor plenty of time to bring the night to a close. Gene Harris 'As'.

Original Vinyl Only Do..not Quite
One of the best nights I ever had in the Sub Club, Glasgow ,was a Sunday night with Ron Trent and Chez Damier djing, early nineties. Throughout his set Chez kept introducing a track which no one knew at the time, Danell Dixon 'Dance'it came from a cassette tape. I just noticed that someone else has commented about this night on the youtube link and I remember all of us clamouring for the record to be shown a compact cassette !
