I buy quite a bit off Gemm and get virtually everything I order. BUT I always order from three, four or five star sellers, never off the one or two star sellers. I think there is a time limit on how long you can leave your listing's updated, but IMO its way too long. And they should rid the system of some of the chancers on there, like ARCHDD. Waste of space Girf

  9. From an Old School Hip Hop site Rap music has always existed as an element of Hip Hop since the culture's birth in the early 1970s. The first rappers (called MCs) would rap over funk, reggae, dub, soul, and disco beats and would hold spontaneous rhyming battles that were meant to verbally attack an opponent called "freestyles" (freestyling and flowing were words used to describe the impromptu vocal delivery). Artists that laid the template for such aggressive spoken word set to a funky beat include James Brown, Gil Scott-Heron, The Watts Prophets, and The Last Poets. By the spring of 1979, the first rap record surfaced with funk band The Fatback Band's "King Tim III (Personality Jock)". Later, The Sugar Hill Gang debuted in the summer with Hip Hop's most famous commercial record yet,"Rapper's Delight".
  10. Since when was this a NS record Still a shocker tho' - i'd say at least double what it's worth - there's hundreds of these around in collections !! Girf
  11. Def not White Lines or Rappers Delight - The Fatback Band - King Tim III - Spring 12" 1979 - is supposed to be the first. Cheers Girf

  13. I've quietly looked for this for years - it doesn't turn up much, do it !!! Have you got an MP3 of it ??? anyone ??? Girf
  14. That'll be why you don't see any reggae records on it then
  15. That would depend on whether it were now, at twenty past two on a Tuesday afternoon......or at twenty past two at an allnighter on a Sunday morning Spot on I would say !! Girf
  16. There's a copy on Gemm @ about £20 but looks like the condition might not be so great. Girf
  17. I grew up with this kinda stuff Nico - alot holds great memories for me - stuff like D-Train, Atlantic Starr etc. You might be on the wrong site though, to find like minded souls !! You should try the Soulboys site www.soulboys.co.uk and the Caister site https://www.weekenders.co.uk/caister/ - I wouldn't mention that your a fan of Rick Astley there either tho' - he's not well respected on any of the UK soul forums Cheers Gareth
  18. There's another UK released version too - by Jester on Jam - reggae label I think ??? Its not that great tho' I've had a couple of the Moon Williams in the past and always got rid in preference of the RK version. Maybe a case of the one you had first is the one one you prefer, but in this case I just think the vocal on Moon Williams is weak in comparison. Girf
  19. You could check out the superior version by Ron Keith & Lady's on A&M - mucho cheaper too !! Girf
  20. Absolutely - and Voices ran a great 'Crossover Special' article in issue 16 - i've just dug it out - some faves that I bought around that time were George Perkins - I'm So Glad Your Mine, Kent Drake - Boss Thing Together & Don Gardner - Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy. And John - in the old days at Yarmouth it was 11am, not 11pm Girf
  21. Did you sell your copy then Ivor ???? Girf
  22. Sure you've seen the copy of Woman on Johnny's auctions.......interested to see what that goes for ??? Girf
