Twisted Oldies
Ive just realised James - You are only 32 so you wouldnt have a clue about the 70s and what made these tracks popular northern soul oldies. Its like saying I understand the First world war when I wasnt there! I can appreciate what was happening but as I didnt experience it I have a different view about it. I am applying the same theory to you mate on not experiencing these records at the time!

Another example of a real DJ as opposed to a boot playing B**tard. Ive wanted a copy of Funk INC Lp "Priced to sell" that has the fantastic track "where are we going" on it. I could have bought the reissue copy for £15 immeadiately and played it out but no I waited and searched and waited and searched until last night a found an original copy for £10.00. Ok its got to come yet but theres no reason it shouldnt as its in the Uk. Moral of the story -Any Tom dick or harry DJ can have instant success(buying a boot or reissue) on the back of others hard earned promotion but I prefer the snobbish route of looking searching and waiting and it does pay off! OVO is not snobbish its REAL. Got an acronym for the boot boys _ NOBBS No Originals But Boot Shite

Wouldnt it be funny if someone booted " The Sandelles" Hit and run lover " Ilike you Sandelles " Reply "Actually its aboot" Or play a boot of Boots Randolph

These people who play boots literally have "no soul" As said they just pick up the phone. This snob this week listened to a mates tunes - This one I had never heard before (Joe tex - I got a song on Michelle) I thought it was bloody good - so off I went and searched for it. I found it in New York in VG cond - Paid my $24 which included P&P to Uk and it slipped into my post box this morning. The label is a bit shagged but the vinyl was VG+++. Oh yes onto the deck it goes and I love it . Thats another OVO record into my box and im feeling pretty pleased with myself and I will play it out one day when I work out what goes with it. I feel tremendous that Ive got a cracking record at a fraction of the book price. The tingle I got when I found it - The elation of the tune turning up the rapture of hearing the first bars and now the hard work to see what I could play before it and after - Thats what part of being a DJ is (IN our scene) not playing F**cking boots or reissues that you dont have to lift a finger (Just the phone) to accquire. This Snob says Ridicule the boot players! Cos they deserve it!

Well lets throw all this OVO in the bucket then cos Thats what our cousins were doing years back and the reason we got hooked onto it. What was the reason we liked this stuff as opposed to mainstream soul - eg Three degrees/ Mac & katie Cassoon - George macrae etc Quite simple - It was bloody great and not readily available - It was our clique and you felt proud of it. IT was OVO then and it should be now. The boots werent done for the Djs they were done for the masses cos cds werent around. Maybe I have a different view than others cos I worked in the business for a time (Global etc) But what is embarrasing is people buying represses Boots carvers - running a soul night and expecting them to be considered on the same platform as me (AND IM a league 2 DJ) I have a lightweight collection compared to lots of people even in my area but at least I can play a set without reverting to a boot or repress just to fill the dance floor. I can do an excellent set of oldies If I want at these oldies nights. I just choose not to. So I still disagree with you Rod cos if its only about what it sounds like to the punters on the dance floor we might as well just crawl into a corner and give up.! However I will spend my time looking /searching for that excellent record I can try in my next set and feel Ive done agood days work rather than just buy boots and try to make out Im abloody good DJto the masses.

Sorry Rod what you are saying is Utter Bollocks IMO- Ive got amate in the Us who has this new thing - I get abootleg done/ carver cos I cant be arsed looking for it. Is that acceptable - NO! and never should be. Even if its oldies it should be original cos thats what they were when they were new things that was driving it forward. Im a total snob where this is concerend ! No Im just someone who believes on the originality of how this scene came about and continue to keep that way - so to speak.

Pete Ive just looked at the ebay item. One problem with what you say- As I worked for Global I am sure I saw 4 or 5 emidiscs of this in the office before the Cream release. So they might have been cut from the tapes!
