  1. There are differences real ; the wah-wah guitar beat is less dominant while the strings rule on the Music City and the singer is upfront with less echo overall than on the Balja wich IMHO sounds less bodied or rather empty like a "stereo" version. But all of that is maybe not so important for some. That wich I can understand, even if to me and some others it's somehow relevant even if not of the first importance like a matter of life or death. BTW, the real lengths are about the same according to the Youtube soundclips.
  2. Same take but different mixes and apparently matrixes are also different. Here are two sale posts with soundclips from actual records for sale. First on Music City and second on Balja. &
  3. Hey, bootlegs were/are not legit "pale" (to put it in a nice way) look-a-like or almost, while second issues are/were just legit re-presses. Whatever people use to call them at any time in history; import, pressing… This one does use the very same template for the label and so, I wonder if this is not just a (even some bit later) repress made by the very same people who did press it first as "‹distributed by Chess records ? Not a bootleg at all I meant as my question.
  4. I believe the man is too humble and could have put more emphasis on the superlative adjectives on his introduction for his podcast or is it just me ? and counting thousands, hundreds, seventy fives, twenties… tops, bests, arrests…

  7. Soundclips from actual record with first the NOW well established "crossover side" and the cool deep flip cover of the Sly, Slick and Wicked classic. This is the Ballads 'butterfly' b/w 'confessing the feeling' on Music City. John Manship wrote when he auctioned a copy, and I do agree with the idea, that this is the better mix to the Balja release. Listen and compare if you can. Docfish did have a proper soundclip of the Balja copy in his last sales on here. 60 £ FREE POST TO ALL OVER THE WORLD ! 8. Howdy Robb, yesterday I was at a friend's place and he showed me that French book "Motown Soul & Glamour" by Giles Petard & Florent Mazzoleni that bares a scan of what seems to be indeed a REAL stock copy (purple/mauve logo) of Frank Wilson inside. So indeed, it's no infatuation (there's been some few years ago) or some bad introduction in proposing "another" real-deal one offered for sale/private auction… And so 2 promos at least are known about, scanned and located. And at least 2 stock issues somewhere else that were with Motown. With one minty scanned and pictured in that French book ! Cheers for those infos (even though you talked about it before apparently, but this is new to me and others) and the corrections on our wrong beliefs/informations.
  9. That makes 2 demos and that's the count I always heard about. Now RobbK's count seems complementary with stock/commercial issues on top ! That's something I've never heard about before.
  10. So I didn't know that. OK, I bend down but I've not heard that version before and I haven't digged or search whereabouts of it for more than 10 years now it's true and with all the rumors and infatuations about and around, I honestly thought that the few around were only promos ! So, indeed, DB London stocker is rarer at this day. Thanks for the little story here Rob.
  11. When he say "stocker" he means not a "demo" copy, like a commercial release with the mauve/purple color on the side with the SOUL logo. That hasn't been discovered yet !
  12. 13. Hallo Rob, sorry maar ik zal in engels schrijven zo iedereen kan begrijp wat wij spreken over. So, I do not understand the "MUCH more plentiful" bit. Do you mean with "preview copy" filling the label ? Or do you mean "soundwise" ?
  14. Read all the way, but still... Some people just have no shame !
  15. Well, ik woon in Brussel voor zo lang (37 jaren) en zoals de mensen die hier zijn hier ik ben een zinneke. Geboren in SA, TX, USA. Eerste woonde ik in Leuven en na in Brussel. Ik was eerst engels leert dan frans. En met tijd hebt nederland (of vlaams !?) geleerd. Voila.
  16. Respect Rob, didn't mean to sound harsh if I was. I tend to forget that my Belgian sense of humor is not universal. But, that way I got my point over and replied to. I find great interest in these treads since sometimes they make people react and you do get some real infos when you cross and cut them. And I got to view that great sound clip from YT from the "other" Dolls. A 45 I kinda forgot about and that is now revived in my ears and all that that goes with it (memories…). Thanks for all of that
  17. Can't agree Rob, I always loved the Sparkles 'try love' on Old Town from scratch and for what it is: that is tribal-early 6T's pop-soul, almost (nearly it) "BIG" NY sound sounding (no strings !!!), with a strange "too high" work on the gains for the lead singer to bring it to an almost saturation... It's full of "well thought" neglect as it is full of "passion" teen emotions. Great cocktail me think. Much more edge than Norm's cut IMHO. I can't say nothing wrong about/on Norma Jenkins and at the same time, I have to admit her version of 'try love' just seems a bit bland to me when comparing. Give me the 'airplane song' for example, this I love. It has an edge and I can understand at the same time why it couldn't be a 'hit' record and that's why I never kept a copy of 'this is our day'. Just wanted to give some justice to the Sparkles (Charlie's Angels ?!) whoever they are.
  18. If it's the Pye Internal release you are talking about, how can that be ? The USA Roulette is early 1974 and the UK Pye International is september 1975 !
