Well, it is odd indeed. I can't find traces of it on the net. I've had that 'TOO much' copy for few years, it was my first copy. Once I got an original I got rid of it. It was green and not blue...

No, the boot is just bad. The original volume is low. They mastering work is not the best they have done. Just as is the vinyl quality they used for those Gemini pressings. So you have to push the volume up to get some juice and you get the sound of the stylus friction on the rough vinyl with it... kinda "lo-fi" sound to it. The boot is that plus bad !

I see the blue ones; The label does match the "big typo" green original ones. But there's at least 2 pressing plants presses; one with large typos and another with smaller ones like so; But the run out grooves seem too large on this blue variation (typical of boots). And so they don't seem right to me; I don't have one in hand to check, but are the blue ones 'Nashville' stamped ? All those blue ones sold on the buy surfaced from the UK !?...

Yes but you'll want to original press misspelt credit 'TO much' where the boot (even lo-fier) is correctly credited as 'TOO Much' !

I'm not based in the UK (am in Belgium), so I din't attend the nighter scene there in the UK so much. And so didn't really understand back then what an "overplayed" tune was until I did attend some nights in the UK in the late 90's & early 2000's. Man that was indeed tiring to hear the same and the same and the same tune on the same nights. In them days there was no "€uro" northern or soul hybrid scene as such. The riche$ young deeJay-ettes came into to market at some times just after that I believe. After that €urope did suffer the same fate. Suddenly I realized that the "sheep" syndrome worked the same with the DJ's over here. They were maybe other "hits" but the reaction amongst those in love with the music (versus in fashion with the music) was spontaneous in the most classic way; Oh no ! Not that one again... I totally follow you with the Spinners 'it's a shame'. It either works in a very creative DJ set or facilitate the exit way when played in the dullest DJ set. This is one reason I'm totally anti-reissues in the 45 format. Since you can't openly put down them DJ's playing out those (you are called a "purist or elitist" if you do) overflowing the record stalls and e-stores, all the DJ's playing those play the same and by doing so manage to kill "real tunes" to bring them to the plain "boring" status. To be on the safe side, I love my deep soul more and more. There I'm sure not to be fed-up with almost any tunes for few more decades to come. On the northern, cross-over and modern sides there's not much that can't be overexposed I believe. Especially with the commercialism of the northern soul scene all over again.

What an artist ! Singer, composer, arranger and producer... Love the guy's guts. RIP

Uh-Oh ! Trev, fantastic and thanks 4 that ! That makes sense. So they pressed the promos (and the stockers) and maybe didn't distributed them promos (I have never seen one out there) but instead decided to commercialize it on Philips and so covered up the Blue Rock promos they had with Philips labels. Mystery solved and so OK; Blue Rock is first and Philips is second.

Have you seen them ? I have never. Heard about it, that's all ! Wondered if it was not another myth... If that is proven indeed, I'll just leave understand that the Blue Rock was first.

Thanks for those paper clips Russel. Indeed, things seems to be much more complicated than we can only try to speculate... even rationally ! Here's what 'globaldogproductions' makes out of the Blue Rock discography and look at the dates of issues ?! Chronology becomes something of nonsense... unless it's all made up...

That's what I said. The 3 Philips (Teresa, Big Frank and London) were released in March 1965. While the Big Frank on Blue Rock is definitely issued between March and May 1965... The Johnnie Mae Matthews was a fair hit and was issued in March 1965 just before Big Franks and both following Blue Rock singles were issued in May 1965. So we are still without factual evidence that the Philips was first, but all evidences leads that way.
