Why Allnighters - Back In The Day?
All nighters would be seen as rebellious by the older generation, so I'm imagining that would have been a major factor in how and why they started, basically to get away from the norm. Just an opinion by the way, not a fact.

Northern Soul Top 500 Time For A Review
As high as 50% going to listen Ted? I'd have guessed 40% of those not dancing go to talk and see there mates, whether it's an oldies or a rarities do. Reading reviews on Source, how many times do you see had a great laugh with my mates. I know it's all part of it, but it's the one area where there's no massive distinction between the 2 crowds IMO.

An Antidote To Handbags
Don't remember the word first time around, but soon became accustomed to it when I came back on the scene in the nineties. Don't particularly like it either, but it is a convenient 'cover all', is it in the Oxford English yet? :) PS. When I was a frequent visitor to the 100 I absolutely adored it, wonky dance floor and all. Musically second to none, and I still look upon it as the best nighter ever since the 'good old days'.

Have You Shaped The Scene?
Hi Nick, I remember Dawn playing Linda and the Vistas for me at Scenesville, I love the record, hadn't heard it played before, and never heard it played out since. Not saying you're a scene changer, you're far too modest for that, but the venue with it's music policy, along with the Dome was IMO

Much Less Interest In Music Now
This makes absolutely no sense to me, as in I have no idea what you're getting at, I've literally no clue as to why you'd want to bring this sort of comment to this site, I'm only talking from a lay members point of view. I've supported this site since I've been on here, it's responsible for most of the other sites that have sprung up, which in my view have been poor imitations in comparison. And don't think I'm sucking up to Mike, we've often had our differences over the years, I just don't like to see this sort of 'inferred' abuse about a site that has helped me with info, and helped me to meet a lot of good people!

The Perfect Allnighter?
I'll name it, the Embankment club Wellingborough, for years the best local event we had, innovative music, great dance floor, good people in attendance and truly excellent promoters

Much Less Interest In Music Now
That's probably the difference then Chalks, I tend to use facebook just for social purposes, and the groups I'm in, I've generally been joined to rather than requested to join. If I want info I tend to use Source, because to me it's much more intimate, as you say though, it's horses for courses

Much Less Interest In Music Now
Yep that's about the size of it Pete, there's also a few I went here, and am going there comments. Do you remember how wound up people used to get on KTF when someone started a list hahahaha

Much Less Interest In Music Now
Definitely more floating about on FB, but without wishing to sound disrespectful to them, many of them appear to be just arriving, or recently arrived on the soul scene, and FB was the first port of call. The 'volatile' arguments I was talking about aren't frequent, but because the groups aren't moderated as such, they can get quite out of hand at times
-
Much Less Interest In Music Now
Chalks, I don't know if you're talking about facebook when you say other internet sites, I'm on a few groups on there, but they certainly don't have the depth of Soul Source and have many more volatile fall outs. To be honest I dip into them very rarely as they often can't or don't hold my interest. If you're talking about something completely different, please accept my apologies bud.

The Perfect Allnighter?
You missed out de O Lennie, it's Ediot, you ediot Perfect nighter for me would start with no alcohol, it would have a good sized and decent dance floor, musically it would be across the board and the people in attendance would be like minded

Teaching People To Dance Wtf?
I like that you've answered Dave, if you look through the posts, not many have said NO dance classes full stop, what we've been debating is whether it's apt in a venue when there's others dancing. Tommo and Paul are both great dancers, but I've never seen either of them giving lessons inside or outside a soul night so that the 'students' can then go away and practice straight away on the dance floor. That's what I saw last weekend. As has been said, to dance to northern you need to feel it, I respect and understand your reasons for taking the lessons, but I would maintain some are taking the lessons, just so they fit in to what they are viewing as an important part of a social scene, without feeling the music. Sorry if this sounds elitist, it's not meant too, the contributors to this thread (including myself) are worried as to the direction the scene appears to be taking. Once again thank you for putting your point, it's appreciated.
