Where Is The Cut Off Line Between Motortown And N Soul?
I guess it means when does commercial motown become northern, for instance 'baby love', not northern, tell me it's just a rumour northern, just a theory?

The General State Of Our Beloved Soul Scene
Have to say totally agree with Chalky here, everything's so cryptic, which leads to misunderstandings, if you've got something to say about a venue or a record clearing the dance floor, could you be a bit more specific, so we know what we're reading/discussing. Ian D, the idea of a 2000 person capacity venue firing up every month is lovely, but just not viable for obvious reasons. Music policy, what is it?., Promoter who is it? , DJs, who would they be? financing said venue, who could afford it? but above all getting 2000 people to travel again, not sure you'd be thanked for cutting down choice and basically curtailing a lot of punters social lives? The General State Of Our Beloved Soul Scene
I think purely from a music perspective that sounds good, but the scene is exactly that now a scene. The social side is the reason why there's so many events, because people enjoy meeting mates and having a laugh, and if you look at lookbacks from some of the more upfront events exactly the same thing is said, the only differences are the music being played and in most cases they're attending a nighter. If the northern soul crowd wanted something 'new', as the musical diet then oldies events would be the ones in the minority. Simple truth is that most people want to have a beer and not travel, if there was only a one room event to attend, most simply wouldn't go. IMO

The General State Of Our Beloved Soul Scene
yeah, that sums it up quite nicely. Plus we're getting older, can't dance for as long even with an enhanced experience, and if that was your thing, it's a big thing to lose. The internet also has a role, before it's inception, most views were word of mouth, now here it is for everybody to read, whether if be a positive or a negative, lots more people get reached. Same for events, they're put up on soul sites and again are read by a huge audience, there's rarely a bad review as most are written by friends of the venue, so you go along and it's not really what you expected. Maybe it's the British way, same as in restaurants, ''Did you enjoy the meal Sir'' ''Most certainly'' the waiter doesn't ask why most of the food is still on the plate, and you don't want to tell him, and so the apathy continues

Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most
The Larue, never liked it never will. Third window is a stinker as already mentioned, don't like voodoo working either, as Matt said, each to their own, but I just can't warm to any of these

One And A Half Million Reasons Why
simply the best soul site on the net and it's an achievement you should be proud of Mike. Given loads of people a platform to exchange views, info, knowledge, have a laugh, have serious discussions outside of soul music, everything we want, brilliant job buddy Winnie

Bournemouth: The End For Northern Soul All-Niters In The South?
How is asking why someone has to come on the thread and justify why they didn't go to this nighter sanctimonious?
-
Bournemouth: The End For Northern Soul All-Niters In The South?
I read it the same Steve, just is it realistic that someone is going to come on the thread to probably be chastised? If it's a promoter war thing can it go any other way?

Bournemouth: The End For Northern Soul All-Niters In The South?
I really don't get why you think somebody who didn't go to this nighter, should or would have to justify their actions? Winnie

Bournemouth: The End For Northern Soul All-Niters In The South?
I really liked LEL, russ and Gibber did a great job, the problem's the same as always though Lenny, and it doesn't matter how you dress it up, there's not enough people who want that style of music. If you take Karen as an example, she will drive literally hundreds of miles to hear something she wants to hear, but she just can't be everywhere, so if a similar event is on somewhere (similar in it says we're not same old same old) she can't be in two places at once, one of them will miss out, sad but true.

Oldies- How Low Will You Go
I wouldn't disagree with that, but you did put 'soul issues', in your previous post which to me implied all things soulful? anyway never mind, all cleared up

Oldies- How Low Will You Go
Hmmmm yeah, I'll play, cos I fall into this category these days, haven't been out for exactly a year, you do realise this is a forum, basically to discuss opinion, hence people posting on it, but you think, unless I'm reading you wrong, that I shouldn't comment on the various topics (yes Terry I know you think that ) Sort of feels like you're trying to deflect comments about yourself, or maybe garner favour with certain people? At the moment I choose not to go out, that may change, is there any venue in particular I have to go to, to reactivate my posting rights on soul source? Winnie

Whats Next
Hopefully if a younger crowd takes up the mantle, they'll eventually create their own niche, and our generation will not have much of a say in it, which is probably as it should be

Whats Next
At one of them the soulful house room kicked out early, I went down there and the northern room's music was being pumped in, ended up dancing in there all on my own, saved climbing the stairs

Whats Next
I went to some nighters a few years ago at le scala, Keb and Ion arranged them I think. Northern top floor, funk middle floor and soulful house bottom floor, probably nine/ten years ago now?
