Daybreak Reissue
There was certainly copies on at 12 noon today - it is still @ £87.00 - Methinks I shoulda bought some more copies - but I will leave exploitation & plain stupidity to others. Debating with myself which of these two evils is worse.

Just Ask Me - Lenis Guess- Bobby Relf On Trans?
I too was at Lowton - looked at the said record - looks genuine to me - different - yes - even got all the right stamps in the deadwax - can't imagine bootleggers going to that much trouble. Flanny is one of the "good guys" - he would rather do you a favour than any harm. If he thought the record was a boot he would have said so - either way Flanny couldn't exactly retire on the proceeds of a Bobby Relf could he? Sometimes people on this site are too quick too crucify others - opinions are like a**eholes - we've all got one!!!- Sweet Geraldine Boot Or Legit?
Don't think it was ever booted - great record that it is - was a last hour tune from The Mecca in '75 - played by Colin Curtis. Very rarely seen - you are a lucky boy.- Unreleased Tracks
"Everybody Needs Somebody" - JJ Barnes - Brilliant!!!!!!!- The Most Soulful Record That Made The Charts?
Can't believe that nobody has mentioned - so I'll do it for you "Walk Away From Love" - David Ruffin AWESOME!!!!!!!!!- Big Name Djs Holding Back
Think one of the reasons that records are not "broken" easily is down to the amount of venues per month all spread around the country. Back in the day when Mecca & Wigan were the weekly gigs the same djs would push their new discoveries to generally the same attendees. Put a Sunday All Dayer in the mix & you would here a "new" tune possibly 6 or 7 times during that weekend - two or three weeks later that record was "big"- sometimes even overnight.- Best Across The Board Track
Not wanting to sound too picky but some of the records listed in this discussion are over 25 years old - do we still percieve these records as "modern"? The Four Tops were recording "modern" records once - but that was in 1965. Just realised - anything recorded after December 31st 1969 is classed as modern by some contributors on this site. Soul music was good in '65 & 40 years on the new releases are still good - open up your minds - you're missing out!- Joi Cardwell "let It Go"
GEMM have had a few copies recently - might still be some left.- What The F
Had a bit of a cult following at The Highland Room circa '73 via Mr. Levine. Think "cult" is the word I am looking for.....or something very similar- Instrumental Called "image"
Seem to think it was a closing theme on one of the pirate radio stations - was it Caroline or Luxembourg ? No doubt the better informed will tell us.- Dj Genesis - Tribute To Betty - 12''
"Sam does it again.........................................................." Much as we all respect Sam there a lot of djs on the Soulful Dance scene who played this record nearly 18 months ago. I always forget that until the northern scene thinks a tune is good it is generally dismissed as that "disco/house/garage" rubbish. Lots more modern tunes out there to buy right now - but if you wait another two years you will be able to pay 3 or 4 times their current value.- Let's Hear It For The Drummer
Love the naivety of the rock/soul drumming on "You Just Don't Know" - Chubby Checker & it seems to me that the drummer on "This Love Is Real" - Jackie Wilson/Promises falls off his stool halfway through.- family tree - soulful dance night - 18/02/06
- Why Is It Rare To See Dj's Dance?
At least you stroke your chin in time to the music - a quality I hugely admire.- Wrong Words
New a girl up the Highland Room who thought Lou Edwards went......... "Talkin' 'bout Uncle" "Thinkin' 'bout Uncle" When Ian Levines tailor mades were played at Wigan a few people thought "Doomsday" sounded like "BRYLCREEM" over the Casino speakers.- On The Scene Magazine
The new charge does indeed get a mention on the inside cover of the front page.- On The Scene
Handed some On The Scenes out on December 27th at The Orwell.- Creating Atmosphere 8-9pm
Funniest thing I ever saw at an early spot was when a wannabe DJ played "Baby A Go Go" - Barbara McNair off a dodgy CD. Went up to the decks to have a nosey & saw a Motown record spinning on the turntable with the needle hovering about half an inch above the disc. You can fool some of the people...............- Charisma Band - Al Hudson Etc
Al Hudson - SOLD. Rest will be going on Ebay on Monday .- Creating Atmosphere 8-9pm
Done early spots myself - like to play lesser known things - really LOVE it when somebody comes up & asks you a)" Play Girl Across The Street" " Got Any Northern Soul ?" c)" Do You Know What Northern Soul Is ?" or the best of all when not only do they expect you to spin records they ask you to do some Paul McKenna mind-reading act when they say "Play something we know".- Records With A Good Whoo-hoo In Them
"And The Rains Came" - The Millionaires - plenty of whoo - hoo in there particularly on the intro. & of course not forgetting "The Whoo Hoo Song" - Jackie Wilson - Singer Whistling
