Can someone tell me the history of this one, when it turned up? who found it? where was it played? I was recently told rightly or wrongly that someone in the states has a multi count box that he sells one or two copies per year, drip feed? Great tune

Does it really matter where this was played first? think most agree it was a massive tune for Richard at Wigan. A record that sounded anthemic at the Casino with its massive curved ceiling it worked perfectly. Play it somewhere with poor acoustics ... somehow it never worked as well.

think it was around £120 as far as I remember, despite all the other takes on this story Ray's copy or the one he bought was one of the first to surface for sale, it caused a real buzz in the record bar, Richard still had it covered as Joe Matthews, the seller had it uncovered as Cecil Washington. I can see an exited Pete Lawson now ... telling everyone who the Joe Matthews c/u was. £120 was a lot of money in 79/80 RS had a few months earlier sold Don Gardner cheating kind for a reported £50.

I have read the piece in Keith Rylatt's book only recently, found it interesting. So can anyone confirm if the the acetate played by Richard circa 79/81 as Rose Valentine was an a genuine 60's vintage detroit acetate? or was it cut by Richard from a tape in the late 70s? ... George

I tried to buy his copy when we both dj'd at a Bernie Golding all-dayer in Preston, must have been winter 82 (coldest venue ever) he declined a big offer saying 'I couldn't sell it', I often wondered why he couldn't, wouldn't sell it, was it the real deal?

Is this correct Tony Coleby at one time lived in York and Leeds has passed away?, I'm sure there was a photo of him posted on SS at the Leeds Central dayer earlier this year.

They say they have loads of copies, available over the counter in Tib Street or £5 postage, Neil Rushton also has copies, think he was offering 1st class recorded for £5 Apparently It has been re-printed so assume when stock filters through it will be available globally mail order from amazon

Anyone remember the Rotherham School of dance all nighters, late 70s? strange venue, very bright, little seating. Remember Alan Senior had multiple copies of Carol Anderson Sad Girl on Fee for sale for £1.50 or something like that, it was virtually a new release.

Great stuff Chalky haven't heard some of these since they were played in the day. The 'On The Avenue' track was originally thought to be Tommy Good. I take it at some point there has been firmer clarification of the artists?

the definite original has the legendary 'double dimple' the vinyl is thin. The label print is also crisp and sharp, by comparison ... it just looks right.
