  3. I intend to
  4. Love the Candi Staton, it's one that always stays in the playbox. Thought the Tokays was a bit cheap too

Well they met all over the place around 76AD. Much later, in 77AD a small group of stompers had amassed at Ye Olde Top Ranke Clubbe in the old settlement of Reading to have an all day party and discoteque / dancing festival to celebrate the banks being closed on that particular day. Massed ranks of funkateers from Essex and elsewhere organised coaches and joined this party and introduced the stompers to a new kind of music "jazzifunke" as it was originally known. The rest is, as they say, history.
  6. hi Phil, nice to have you back - just a shame it's in such unfortunate circumstances,
  7. No don't worry Dave , it's buried deep amongst the "maybes" Steve
  8. I am saying I don't think PD went to Lifeline. Now I am confused are you saying you saw him there?
  9. If no one else turns it up I'll have a look tonight. Should have it somewhere.....
  10. Think it was Pikey's stunt double at Lifeline FickleFingers.
  11. Tricky in London and S.E Capt'n. 30 miles covers 15m people
  12. Del Royales was the orig. Tyrone B easily da best.
  13. Good tip from a fellow Somerset soulie.... Seriously it was a major distributed record, so probably no surprises that someone has found a box with some copies in from an old distributor or something. Steve
  14. I am sure I would and you are not coming across as boring - likewise you'd have a larf if you came down the smoke to Blue Skies. I am among the first to get on my high horse about real soul music and I am also self-elected president of the little known "HSJNA" society - thats "Holly St James NEVER AGAIN"
  15. I thought that too
  16. Barney Think Chrissie was having a bit of a larf, she actually plays good northern soul when she's DJing, even if she does like 60s girlie pop and occasionally drops one the odd Joey Hetherton us. She's certainly got her soul credentials that's for sure.
  17. L J Johnson on Mercury.
  18. Not had one opened, they usually use the green customs form as a guide. Likelihood of your parcel getting stopped is variable and depends on 1) whether the value declared is high 2) how busy they are...... Interesting (and sad to reflect on this) but after 9/11 they didn't do any of this, and I remember not paying for anything for at least a year. They were all too busy checking parcels from Iran, Africa etc. For expensive items use FedEx or UPS Costs a bit more, but a lot faster, and I don't recall them ever asking me for money. Steve
  19. This is shocking Neil! When I interviewed Jr Walker for Blackbeat when he was at Peterborough in the early 80s all he could talk to me about was nice Mr Gordy and how good Mr Gordy had been to him. Being from the gutter press of black music, all I wanted to talk about was David Ruffin and the allegations re Tammi Terrell but he was having none of it!! Steve

It's a great record; don't worry about keeping it on the shelf if no one on here wants it

The current scene would be very boring without a few cover ups.

just says things like that and Two Plus Two are unknown to most - it's in the context of oldies being far more popular these days. Don't get angry now Fingers.

Well Uncle Tim Brown has mentioned it in the new Manifesto in a passing comment....
  24. ...or his thick black hair
  25. Nev died many years ago BigRay. About 1980/1. Back to the thread..... I also remember the Baldocks address, and also the shop in Melton that I used to come over to where videos vyed for space with the vinyl upstairs, and the shop in Newark later where I got things like Martha Starr (that was much later early 90s) - this is getting like a History of John Manship Records thread.
