Urban Myths Of Northern Soul
Hi Guys/gals, Always been intrigued by 'ghost' records & super rare discs & the stories & urban myths behind them. So thought I'd start my first thread here, so go easy on me, hope it's in the right place & hope the subject hasn't been done to death already. I'll kick off with a record by MAJOR LANCE, THINK NOTHING ABOUT IT on Okeh 7200, does this record actually exist in this format? Has anyone ever seen it & does anyone know the story why this record actually never got cut? (or maybe it did). Feel free to chip in with your own 'northern myth'. Cheers ears Aid.

Strangest Artist To Have A Northern Record

Hi Lorraine, Great to see you interacting on this sight. Your voice introduced me to a lifelong love of soul. For me, it's 'I Can't Change' that defines you a legend, just my opinion. Great to have you here & with such great humour too. End of creeping. As we say in the northwest u.k. .....'ta chuck'. Regards, Aid.

Hey Sosten.... Bit of a generalisation that dont you think? i like to read & join in topics about northern cos I love it, but i promise you, i'll live with you on most music genres, bar heavy rock, but dont want to talk about those on here. Does that make me blinkered? I can talk about Myles Davis or Lenoard Cohen at work, but isnt this place to meet like minded people and learn something about what you love? Or am I missing something?

Hi Bri, Yeah, it was booted, this is an original, a few small differences in 'typestyle', i.e. serifs on the number one (it shouldn't have any). It was the first thing I checked before buying, mine is the orig. Would be easy to pick up the boot buy mistake though. Cheers Aid.

Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Change of subject, something new i learned today, Dynamo of Larry Clinton fame, was out of the Artic label! Now I know, its obvious looking at the design.

Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
This counterfeit was made at the same time as Barbera Lewis Someday were gonna love again & same applies to that.
-
Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
For OP: bootlegged as WD (as Pete said) missing AT in deadwax. Also counterfeited on red issue Dial, messy AT (Atlantic Distribution) in deadwax 2 lines on top of T on fake.

Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Just to give this thread some balance, he did give regular spins to Pat Powdrill & Lyn Randell so it wasn't all bad.

Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Ha ha, just remembered the biggest sin of all.........The Wigan Joker, The Royal Vibes, he actually used to play this atrocity.
-
Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Another one that killed me 'Theme from Coloured Man' Teddy Vann, absolute torture.
-
Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Yeah, I hated it, but I had this mate Chris Hurley who was a fabulous dancer & he loved it, think it went with 'Riker' if you know what I mean, but it had absolutely nothing to do with soul music.

Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Just thought of another criminal (in my opinion)/ but very popular track that Russ used to play, Salt & Pepper Lou Edwards, talk about cheesy pop, but it was massive, think I was missing something....
-
Was This Ever Re-Pressed Or Booted?
Yeah I remember this taking off for a short while Pete, could never understand it myself, think it was the intro & distinctive guitar rif that made it so popular. Of course its just my opinion but was more of a rock track than soul to me, but loads of my mates were nuts on it too. Did used to get some crazy tracks on in those days, possibly the worse one I can remember was 'Spiderman' i still get a headache thinking about that track, possibly the worse track i've ever heard at any soul venue? Russ was guity of some crimes in the later years. Aid.
