Got that right, Henry Hill said Scorsese would phone him in the middle of the night to ask how a wiseguy would hold a cigarette!

Back to the matters at hand, as the writer and director are members on here and they care about what we say. If they're holding back on release and still cutting scenes, couldn't they lose the cringworthy dance off sequence and have a general de-cheese audit and put the fecker out there - soon as?! I want to see it all the way through, I want it to be a success for them and for everyone. Craic on & happy Paddy's Day.

Why have they put it back to the autumn Billy?
  6. Does anyone remember Coke being the sort of official drink for ns fans? My mate was sneered at once at a nighter for drinking Pepsi! True story..
  7. I'd heard the boot went for money - why I wonder?

    Not all of it. You?

That's a weak analogy imo joeythelips. If the sounds didn't fit the period at least he was probably there when those sounds were played. Could the same be said of Shimmy Marcus? I've seen Once upon A Time and it knocks spots off what I've seen and read of Soul Boy in terms of authenticity etc.

I take your point there Phil, though I don't know that it's down to you or me to say who this film is aimed at. Quadrophenia came out in 1979 and spawned what became a full on mod revival. Now I'm not saying this crummy film will have the same effect, but again as we have nothing to do with who the film is aimed at, we have an equally non existent guide as to how it will be perceived and by whom. Regarding the new blood and the craving - some want this to prolong the longevity of the northern soul scene because they care and they don't want it to die on the vine.

Het up? Geez from the first day I heard about the production of this film - whatever they're calling it this week, I NEVER thought of it as entertainment. Perhaps there are some who care about the portrayal of this so called underground scene and how the young blood we so desperately crave will receive this film- dance off's n'all.

I'd say yes Nick. I sold a Roy Hamilton - 'Cracking up' on the orange RCA (after locating and purchasing a real one). Reissue went for nearly fifty quid on Ebay. I was amazed!
  14. That's not old for our scene and you know it! I'll let you off further ball busting though, as you're a good egg & a family man with young kids. On the subject of the thread I'd agree with you Pete, a blend of oldies & newies and easy on the modern. Happy Birthday for the big five o tomorrow mate.

Grew up with this record as my folks came by it in the days when folk took 45's to parties - and came home with other peoples. 42 years later, safely in my collection. Awesome vocalist Lou Johnson.
  16. Yeah well I thought to say it sucked was a bit harsh..
  17. You're saying Popsike sucks?
  18. I remember Les Walker having northern soul karaoke at her birthday party couple of years back. I must confess to having a go, but I was very, very drunk.

Good shout Bridgey! Never dreamt I'd own a Frank Wilson on SOUL. No never had that dream and never owned that record.
  20. Have to disagree a bit with that mate. Playing pressings in a freebee pub do is one thing. However somebody hammering Soul Inc (for example) on cd, then you come along and play a real one and they can't be arsed to dance because it's been hammered, how would you feel?
