Leon Bridges
Kev posted something up about him in Feb - he was featured in the Guardian's weekend 'one to watch'. I'm a fan. He's backstory is good too. He was a kitchen porter and really into his hip-hop/grime and someone played some early 60's soul on the radio and he was a game changer, apparently...

New Northern Bar In Brum..anyone Know Anything?
And, in addition to my Q above... "Every Friday will be a pure Northern Soul night operating a tongue-in-cheek ‘Strictly No Handbags’ policy, thus making sure Soul fans know not to expect crossover or mainstream soul. In contrast every Saturday will operate a ‘handbags welcome’ policy, with a large disco ball and DJs playing a range of Motown, Soul, Funk, Ska, 60s r & b, and more." I'm also confused about what a 'hand-bagger' is. I thought hand baggers were top 50 and Frank Wilson 5 times a night. A night of funk/Ska/ R'n'B isn't a handbag' thing, is it? The Disco balls, yes... I thought a 'pure northern night' had become the oldies, hand bag scene.

New Northern Bar In Brum..anyone Know Anything?
So, why is Brum a difficult gig...? Wasn't there a fairly decent mod night there by...Rob...??? I can't remember.

Joyce Williams - The First Thing I Do In The Morning
A clean copy of Joyce Williams - The First Thing I Do In The Morning Must be VG++ as a min condition. Not interested in the copy on Discogs, its too expensive, IMO. Thanks, Gary

2 Ray Charles Collection Fillers
Hello all, I'm after 2 cheapie's, Ray Charles - I Got a Woman (I think it's only on the 'Atlantic Oldies Gold' label). Ray Charles - I don't need no Dr (i'll have the abc issues, or the French 7" EP, but only if the sleeve is decent). Cheers, Gaz.

Is This Taking Bootleging To The Xtreme
Before I opened the link I had a feeling this guy would look as he did. A cross between a subject librarian & an extra from Scooby-doo I respect the guy and far from being a bootlegger, he's a preservationist.

Gregory Porter - Bbc Radio 4 This Morning
Hi All, Saturday Live this morning on BBC Radio 4 featured a really, really interesting feature/chat with Porter. He is peppered throughout the broadcast as well as having his own specific segment, so worth listening form the start. He's got a great radio persona and a charming story teller. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05tbf5h

Looking at the Rafa club playlist recently, there were 3 or 4 in amongst the usual top sounds so there must be a good few still about. I'm sure the Lifeliner's have a fair few between them, but it is a funny one though, because someone somewhere will know it. Mr Fish, who has excellent records posted up a Fish C/U on Facebook last year and I sent him a PM straight away. So you have to be very confident in the record to do it. You can't fault people for trying though - keeps things exciting. I sold one last year, put it on FB, got good cash, no one seemed to know it, but Greg sent me a PM - knew it straight away and sold his as a result.

Whatever Next,what's Going On?
That bottom one looks a little like me

True - But it was Gregs 'dublab' lab page which has it listed. However, if I was speaking about mixcloud specifically, you again only have to type the record into mixcloud itself to see who else has it/played it. And that result comes up amongst Amazon, last FM and ITunes, all of which produce results re this record, so you get my point

But surely all these people have to do is Google the record they have, which they think is rare or might be worth covering up - so in this instance, this specific record comes up on Gregs playlists, on collector-frenzy as well as a few forums etc. #researchfail

I doubt it - its not 'that good' and it can't be that rare, even I have a copy! I've just had a flick through my records, are the 'Fantastic Violinaires' the same as the 'Violinaires' of "Groovin with Jesus' fame?

First Theft In 10 Years
Only that we seem to assume only men go to soul nights or have the capacity to be thieves.

Wants-No Replies
Worst of all, you see them put another want out, so they're actively using the forum...

First Theft In 10 Years
or her legs...? No, i couldn't advocate that, lol but...the promoter doesn't specify gender. Actually everyone has said its a bloke, funny eh.

First Theft In 10 Years
Shame that things like this happen. There is so much trust invested in people and, largely, i would say rightly so. People come up, chat around the decks, ask about records but then there is always one eh... Good luck on the search.

Rest In Peace Helena Stromdahl
So Shocked and no age at all. Very sorry to hear this Sebastian - my thoughts are with you and her friends & family. Pass on my well wishes to Hanna. For me, and Liam, she was one of Europe's youngest and finest DJ's and was a treat to have her over in Manchester for the Weekender, and also to Double Deck with her on the Monday session. Rest In Peace x

Ian Levine's Soul Packs ?
While I agree that people shouldn't use this site to make digs at others (yet they do and always will), you can't pre-empt or police it - if anything that provokes it. Plus the question of price/quality is always up for discussion. And I see your point about him not being here now - in the sense that he can't defend himself? Its a very befitting topic for this site (cue Mike's thread deleted/moved comment). I'm sure the good people of this site can bite their tongue and keep the discussion grounded in the music and whats on offer and less about who is doing the offering. We shall see...

Ian Levine's Soul Packs ?
Exactly. Isn't that the purpose of a forum; to discuss topics based around a specific them. If we just spoke about topics administered on this site it'd just be a news website with a 'comments' section (a slow news website at that)...and god help those in the...dare I say it...'Freebasing section'.
