  1. but none of those were new sounds in the 90's?
  2. Too right Joan. It was a massive record in the 80's, Keb, Rob Marriott just two. It was covered up as Dave Charles too I think. Again like you said it has featured regularly on DJ's playlists over the last 20 years or so.
  3. one here Record Row, Cradle of Rhythm & Blues https://www.thevideob...cago-blues.html
  4. at a compression rate of 11:1 there is little if any noticeable difference to the human ear. You can go as far as something like 17:1 before any loss becomes audible. Of course it all depends on what bit rate you compress to and the quality of your source. Take iTunes, at a bit rate of 253kbps you will not notice any audible loss. You can get lossless and many download platforms now so that will do away with any quality issues.
  5. I don't know where people get the poor quality from iTunes. The last one I downloaded was 253 kbps (standard download as far as I'm aware), cd standard used to be 192kbps. You can compress a sound file quite a lot before you can audibly hear any loss to the music. My digital files are backed up to three other drives.
  6. It has more recent crossover spins. Nev had one for sale at £300 few months ago.
  7. What are the early cds of the northern scene worth these days, I've got the very first Soul Supply one somewhere upstairs.
  8. It might have happened at 100 Club as well then cause that's where I though it had happened. I do remember the Winsford one now explained but sure I wasn't there that night.
  9. Saw her at Yarmouth in '89. Her voice wasn't up to much and many pretty disappointed from what I remember, don't think many of us realised this was probably due to the cancer.
  10. it's an oldie Mark isn't it?

Gotta agree with you, can't understand why people have to give their opinion of a records quality when all that is asked is the title and singer. I'm sure some of their tastes leave a little to be desired at times. If talking about the record in general then can't see nothing wrong in giving your opinion.
  12. Poll result interesting so far, less than 10% happy to go out and don't mind paying to hear boots. The rest would prefer to hear originals. But just under 22% don't care what the format is they are listening/dancing to with over three quarters actually caring. Just 1 person wants to hear the same old same every week with the largest majority in favour of lesser known etc along side quality classics. Wonder if any promoters will take notice of this?
  13. It's happened countless times Carms. I remember once at Desborough some "DJ" playing a grapevine re-issue when the next DJ on had just spent a few thousand on a really rare record. Words were exchanged I can tell you.
  14. Yep sure does Dave, respect, used to be used a lot on this scene but not too much about these days from some.
  15. Lifeline always used new carts/stlyi at every all-nighter. We now hire the equipment and they know what we expect of the equipment. Only one DJ used his own cartridges and his acetates and expensive records then started to jump and stick. Had to make him put ours back in.
  16. Any background info to this release? Anything about the band, have you been in touch with band or label owner, any label info? How did the re-issue come about? Been of interest to the rare soul scene for along time so anything you can share would be great
  17. Where can we read your review, tried the links in your signature but get the message failed to open the page all the time.
  18. You are not thinking of Distant Lover on Tamla are you? Never seen a Tamla copy of Lonely Lover. Maybe someone knocked one up themselves?
  19. I remember buying this (Hudson's Records in Chesterfield) when it came out and being so disappointed when I got it home
  20. I've mentioned it before to Ady to stick all the booklets in one book, would make a fantastic read...I for one would buy one.
  21. Thats all Ian should need really Dave, connect both computers and windows should do the rest for him, easy!
  22. Airport is Mac only.
  23. Think I put one on a list for Andy awhile back for £1100, I'll have to check to be sure. Wouldn't have thought that much in it price wise, both very rare.
