she must be worth it your wife expensive record!!! One of my all time fave non 60's tracks.
  3. I've seen it for £70. Indemand and glad I got mine for next to nowt
  4. great record and one I've played at Lifeline. Andy Dyson had one, not sure if he's still got one. E-mail him Dysonsoul@aol.com
  5. When I said Steve in charge I meant you gave him responsibility for that room, sure thats what he mentioned in conversation about the venue once. Rob Marriott charging the squad to get in, "don't give a f*ck who you are, tenner (or what ever the entrance fee was back then)"
  6. Yeah they were a complete set of b*stards!! Stopping the coaches and searching all who entered the car park in town centre!! They caught one person with a bit of gear from the six all-nighters. Think in the end the venue had to concede to the police as they were refused an extension for one of Colliery Brass Bands I think the stance of the police may have softened a bit now Dave, other all-nighters from other types of music have been held in the area and other clubs have been open all night. Might be worth a try again
  7. It was 1987 for I think 6 nighters. First one upstairs was northern and downstairs modern etc. Northern went downstairs and the upstairs became oldies room, Steve Smith in charge of that one I think??? The December one was Kebs last nighter outside London before going into retirement, got a rousing ovation that went on for ages and Guy was stood there tapping his feet waiting to start his set
  8. Another from 80's, Paddocks Club in London, opposite or at side of Daily Mirror (I think) buliding.
  9. Chapel in Rotherham, just the one though I think and there was one in Stoke above the Bus Station back in the 80's?????
  10. Lifeline's had three homes so far, Sheridans, the Fox @ Colsterworth and Old Bell @ Barnby Moor. We are moving as of April to Brookfields Club (The Stables) @ Shareshill, Wolverhampton. It's the home of New Century Soul Club too if it hasn't been mentioned already.
  11. Could have had a mention but I didn't see it (eyes a little tired), Winding Wheel in Chesterfield, best nighter venue I've ever been in.
  12. It's let down a touch by the femme backing, but it's a great northern dancer!! Sounds better and far more powerful out loud at a venue than it does at home.
  13. Dunno why you have to ask Mark? If you think it's good enough then play it, f*ck what anyone else thinks
  14. There's the Lifeline Soul Club. Click on the link under my signature.
  15. But how do you return your credibility when you go commercial, has it been done without ridicule and being looked down upon by soulies? The whole point of NS was it was an underground scene and some venues went to far with the commercialisation, (some would definately say Wigan did for a period) and therefore proabably lose some of the credibility gained during previous years? Anyway I'm off out now, have a good weekend whatever you do and where you go!!
  16. But if the man in the street knows about these venues then there's an aspect of commercialisation about these venues. But it's not about the man in the street, it's about the 100's of soulies who's life was influenced by Northern Soul/Rare Soul or whatever tag you wish to give it. The extent of the influence of these venues is as I said gonna be determined by what era any particular person grew up and where they went, not by column inches.
  17. There'll be many who went to Torch and maybe the Wheel who will disagree. There's many who went to the Mecca who used to look down on Wigan. Don't think we will ever agree on what was the 1st most important venue let alone the 2nd
  18. in essence it's a futile exercise, for one we can never agree on anything, and two when you grew up and where you went would have some bearing on what was most the important venues to any one person.
  19. Don't know if you know it Bob but there's another by them on the label, forget the title but remember it being nowhere near as good as Another Day. I'll look for details when I go to my mates again.
  20. What about Yarmouth Weekenders? They were the ground breakers as far as Northern Weekenders were concerned.....IMHO.
  21. I wouldn't call Keel or Trentham Gardens trend setting venues breaking new sounds on a regular basis or having any influence on the scene. Where in Stoke, Kings Hall? Hardly what you call ground breaking either is it? So thats three on your list that in reality have had little or no real influence on the scene IMHO and hardly venues of any importance in the grand scheme of things. If Wigan is in your opinion the first where are the likes of Stafford and other venues of the 80's?

even with all those tents with different genres someone would still go into a tent and complain about what was being played
  23. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
I suppose a tent would be better accomadation than Prestatyn
