The following scenario..... Promoters one and two promote a venue on the same night, one an all-nighter and the other a soul night. Promoter one threatens to "bury" promoter two for having the audacity to promote on the same night. Promoter two is HIGHLY respected throughout the soul world and has been for many years  To muddy the waters a tad more, promoter one and promoter two both book the same highly respected DJ of many years standing. DJ says, wishing to upset no one and ensure everyone is happy,no problem, will do one and travel to the other after his set. Promoter one not happy threatens to finish said DJ  Personally I don't know what the scene is coming to, some promoters just not happy with what they have and want it all and will do what it takes to achieve this. IMHO there's no place for this kind of behaviour. Don''t know what fellow soul sourcerers thoughts are
  2. Kae Williams did have his own web page somewhere, I'll see if I can still find it.

good advice. the books written about the scene are just from one persons perspective and not necessarily how others saw it. Chicago Soul is one of the finest books ever written IMHO, good choice again.

I've just managed to get hold of a copy of LA R&B Vocal groups by Steve Propes and Galen Gart. Fab read but it's out of print. I managed to get a copy from Dead Dog records in the states, think it was the last one but maybe worth a try.
  8. Someone else has a copy too but who I'm struggling to remember so early in the morning Hope your coming to the weekender Phil in Feb? You'll hear it there

I'd agree with that Pete, see just as many these days with mis spelt. There's one I think on Soul Bowls list this week, or was it Ian Clarks

The story I was told was that Rock Candy had the one side only and nothing for the flip so "Alone With No Love" was stuck on the flip and name changed from Contemplations to Rock Candy.

the boots the same or with a yellow label, thiough yoiu can tell by the print quality the boot from the original. The original has the titles scratched in the run out groove too.
  12. aye seller done nowt wrong. If you were selling one at a nighter, clearly marked as a boot, and someone gave you £150, would you give him £120 back
  13. best of luck with the new venue Ady.
  14. if the buyer has read the description he should know full well it's a re-issue/boot. As already said you can't knock the seller in this case, he's been totally upfront. Why should he have to explain it all again just cause someone got more money than brains
  15. Such a shame, one place I never managed to DJ at but as a punter had many a great night down there, especially during the 80's when the place really rocked as a soul club. The heat used to hit you as you hit the bottom step and then you had to dodge Ozzie who would be trying to trip you as you wiped the sweat away

What about Thorne? and Stafford and other venues in the 80's who ploayed across the board???? Pitches for me filled a void left vacant by the likes of Thorne. Another venue along the lines of Pitches would be great. Know a venue just down the road from me which would be ideal if the owners would be interested, I'll have to pop along sometime and ask the question.

Guy says he went through lots of masters at Charly records in London, loads of Van McCoy (unreleased) as well as the Roscoe Shelton. He also says he played a alternate and more powerful take to the one released on the lp. It's all in the first Dean Anderson show he guested on, part 4.
