  1. Mike, that cat is starting to get very dizzy !!!
  2. Any publicity is good publicity as they say in the classics, so perhaps all this controversy will mean tens of 1000's lining up to get into the next 100 Club niter ...
  3. Bob, Always been fascinated by the tune "Wanted Dead or Alive", do you have any interesting info on the track in light of the fact that there was (to my knowledge) three versions by: Krystal Generation, The Hypnotics and most notably The Voices of East Harlem. Who recorded it first ? And are there any other versions than those mentioned ?
  4. Label is Fordom, come on , I know you've got one ! Record that is !
  5. I'll have The Eula Cooper if it becomes "off" Hold.
  6. Every serious soul fan should own William Bell's " Man In The Street " . I am wildly curious though to hear the effort from legendary soul man Demis Roussos (!!!). Any chance of a sound clip, Mike ?
  7. What'll it take to get Butch on here so we can hear what he's got to say ?
  8. I can just see "Name It and Claim It" becoming one of the northern scene's big re-activations in 2009 !!!
  9. Careful , he'll start charging for his time .
  10. As long as we get to see it all on a You Tube jobbie !!!
  11. Will this tide of emotion get Butch on to the Forum ?
  12. Took the Fatback Band to get him on. Mind you the Carstairs really is a funk record too ...

  14. or ... Pete Smith ... This ... Is Your Life !
  15. Anyone out there in support of Butch's set & playlist that Ken is referring to ? If Butch were to pursue that approach with some other like minded souls such as ... Keb Darge for example ... could it re-invigorate the northern scene ? Bring in thousands of ... "young" people onto the scene ? A totally new attitude and approach to northern soul ? Is anyone frightened by all this ?
  16. I think it's time for Pete Smith to have his very own personal thread a la Ian Levine ...
  17. Darryl, do you have any promotional photos of yourself from the 60's that you could post on here ?
  18. Need a nice condition copy, please.

So us colonials on the other side of the world can't even ask the question ...
  20. The Minit release is not a re-working of the earlier Keymen release. This misconception has been perpetuated for almost 40 years ... They are different tunes both lyrically and musically. Bobby just happened to give both releases the same title. He would not have had a problem using the old title for the Minit release as the Keymen release from a few years earlier had sunk without trace.
  21. Just stay away from that stuff they call ... "soulful house"
  22. I'll second that. "Songs of the Big City" is one of the great soul LPs, but sadly overlooked even by many soul fans. In fact, IMHO it's Clyde McPhatter's greatest work. It also contains the best version of "Three Rooms and Running Water"

J , only thing is once the 12'' version hits the breakdown after about 2 minutes it just goes on and on for about another 5 minutes right to the end with the chorus just repeating over and over and over again, very tedious IMHO, but I guess that kind of mix may have made sense at the time of release in the mid 70s being aimed at the Studio 54 type disco crowd high on cocaine.
  24. Came out in 45 form on an Aussie EP !!!!

Yes, but the 12" mix is quite different from the 7" single release.
