  2. I'm in a similar situation - won one of the Prix 45s cheap, seller got kicked off ebay. Filed claim with paypal, who refunded £7 of my £22, saying they keep £15 as a processing fee - tossers. They assure me they WILL refund this when they get THEIR money back from the seller... ...about a month later I've had an email from Joe and Mamie saying they'll send the record out, and asking to me to drop any claim with paypal if I've filed one. Which I already have, and has been, ahem, "settled". I'll let you know if the 45 ever shows up. I've bought quite a few titles in the past, so am hopeful it'll work itself out.
  3. WOW! Butch's socks - didn't they used to be Butch's FOOT (c/u) ...I'll get me etc.
  4. I think what everyone is missing here is DJ promos are meant to be exactly that. FREE promotional copies, sent to radio stations and up-front disc jockeys who will play the track and expose it to a wide audience. The idea of having to PAY double for the privilege of doing a record label's promotional campaign is, quite frankly, a rip-off. Then again, I prefer issues because I like bright colours - shallow? Moi?

Oof! So, who got it then???
  6. Love it or loathe it, you can stop quarrelling now. I've been sorted with lovely hi-quality MP3s of both sides, thanking you...
  7. Surely Chalky's incredible bottomless digital database will come up trumps?
  8. Well, following on from the Butch thread, I was just wondering if anyone has soundfiles of the TWO PLUS TWO 45 on Velgo. It's painfully obvious that I'm never going to own this one, and the two short snippets I have aren't nearly enough. HELP! Amazing that dealers have been trawling the States for over 30 years for records and something like this pops up! I mean, even if you did find one for a couple of bucks, you wouldn't exactly go "nope, not Gwen Owens, I'll just leave it..." Would you????
  9. Well, I'm glad this has turned into a lively discussion! I wasn't really implying "why do only Butch's records get talked about, there must be hundreds of people out there with equally good one-offs" etc. More, how do they all end up in his collection - I'm sure if there WERE 100s more records out there of this quality, then Butch would manage to wrestle them into his collection. Or he would know about them... he IS the oracle after all... Unless there's a whole world of collecting out there, like black market art - people who own Picassos but can only enjoy knowing they own it, but can't let anyone else see it? Most collectors I know are always showing off their latest discoveries... and if you have a one-off or whatever, you can't really find out if it's a one-off, unless you asked Butch or Andy Dyson - at which point your potential cover-up is out the bag.
  10. While reading the rarest records thread, the same phrase kept coming up: "two known copies, one in Butch's collection... etc." So... how does he do it? Is it psychic encylopaedic knowledge in tandem with an oracle? Amazing voodoo hypnotism trading techniques? Extremely deep pockets? An exclusive arrangement with ebay where all listings are sent to him before reaching the general public? I'm genuinely interested, because it seems everyone else is just left behind in a cloud of dust... I mean if he was 73 years old or Yoda, I could understand!
  11. C'mon... if everyone gave up smoking, I think the amount of money the NHS would save on treating lung cancer victims would more than cancel out any loss of tax. Tired old argument. Living in Scotland ("the sick country of Europe") I thought implementing this would be a nightmare - I was amazed at how smoothly it all went. Most smokers I know much prefer not having to sit in smoky rooms. While visiting Newcastle recently I honestly felt shocked seeing people sitting smoking indoors, it felt like being back in the dark ages. There were children in the pub, inhaling carcinogenic smoke - not funny, and most certainly an invasion of civil liberties...
  12. BUMPED! For the weekend Soul Sourcers...
  13. REDUCED to £50 inc. P&P - bargain! Sells for $200+ when it rarely shows up on ebay.
  14. FORGOT TO MENTION - fully guaranteed if you're not happy...
  15. Not forgetting the superb: BETTY HARRIS "Soul Perfection" (Action ACLP 6007)
  16. 7" FAMILY TREE "Family Tree" b/w "Family Tree" (disco version) (Anada ADA 101) £60 SOLD Great track, with awesome vocals by Sharon Brown, fits into so many styles - modern soul, funk, rare groove, disco... the flipside is the same length as the £1000 12" disco holy grail - but who wants to lug around a 12" anyway? This copy has a few scuffs and plays with a bit of light crackle during the intro and outro, but plays great once the music kicks in (and guaranteed). Mint would be £100+ looking for £50 inc. P&P - paypal preferred. PM if interested...
  17. Dale Dennard is a FEMALE artist... nice double-sider.
  18. Any chance of fanning the fire and adding a soundclip?
  19. Well, a few weeks back I won a 45 off grouprecords on ebay. I'm well aware of the controversy surrounding this seller, but it appears they've been kicked off ebay, with all listings removed and cancelled... Just wondering if anyone knows anything, or is in a similar position. Ebay sent me an email telling me to cancel payment, but I'm hoping they'll send out the record.
  20. Presumably a boxer? I was thinking maybe Joe Frazier, he recorded for Capitol though... must be a few singles made by professional boxers?

A copy of this went through ebay a few weeks ago for a fiver... A FIVER!!!! Are grouprecords ever going to run out of Royal Esquires - that is the question?! Stocks dwindling, apparently...
  22. Who is this Hoss you speak of??? Fancy PMing me his (or her, of course) details?
  23. Err, yes - that's EXACTLY what this post is about - exposing a big name for playing a boot, or a vinylcarver ot whatever... So what? The only difference is you've got £147 more than him... Does that give you more taste? Does it mean you like it any more? Who knows? There seems to be an awful lot of people who think if you don't chuck around hundreds of pounds, then your motives are in question. Look at Keb Darge - nearly his whole set is vinylcarvers nowadays. Does it mean he loves the music any less??? If it's been booted, get over it - move onto the next undiscovered tune. Think it's called hotboxing?
  24. Who cares? Surely as soon as a record is booted, then it's "game over" and anyone can play it? It's not a "big tune" anymore - the name DJ should have moved onto something else by this point?

Basically, just listen to both volumes of Kent's utterly superb "Rare, Collectable and Soulful" CDs. Think as far as comps go, they're pretty much un-surpassed!
