  1. Agree with your quote 100%,
  2. Precisely the point you made, "a bit of imagination and digging" is the core essence of what i believe being a rare northern soul dj is (should) be all about, ***k Luther Ingram, not a bad record but just needs a good lie down (IMO)!!?
  3. y i added an extra '0' by mistake!, point i was making is that if you are a dj and are doing an hours set that is roughly 20-25 records and you cant find in your box that many originals then jog on and get collecting before you wanna put yourself forward as a rare soul dj!
  4. £50-75 depending on condition?
  5. Sherrell Brothers-"The Price", my pick of the day,...and yesterday!
  6. great record!. who needs boot legs and re-issues with originals like this around for a £10 tenner!
  7. I have read 99% of this entire thread and cannot believe some of the excuses ive read for justifying playing anything but OVO!, the clue is the name, "rare soul scene"!, anybody who makes excuses for playing alternative formats other than the original source are just desperate for justification for latch on to the hard graft, talent, courage, fortune, forsight, originality of others!Tranells on Kent is not on its original format, neither are re-issue 45's of 'LP" only tracks, or 2ND issues released some 30yrs later by label/band members!, there are in excess of 100,0000+ original records from the 60's-70's-80's etc that a dj can play rather than 'latch' on to the 'glory' of others discoveries, get a grip or we head down the road of CD'S, MP'S and "its whats in the groove that counts" bollox brigade!,
  8. great record Russ, my fav is "The thIngs I wanna do to you", from his "Midnight Desire" LP
  9. i guess your talking about the "Modern Northern scene" Russ which is about right, all his LP's are superb and plenty of tracks to play out
  10. you paid Norvern prices Moldie!
  11. R.Brown been a soul classic since its release, £20-25 fair price, Northern scene stumbles belated on it some 25years later! and price jumps up thrice fold!, hang fire and wait for a £20-25 one to turn up!
  12. goog stuff thats supposed to read good stuff!
  13. LP tracks that get released on 45 with the heaading, "now available on 7inch" for you to play out at last!, what a joke!, anybody playing these 45's are playing "non originals" IMO, Get Rhetta Hughes LP in your collection coz if you play the "I Cry myself...." re-issue (boot) 45 out at a soul night then your a "fake", "non original" in my eyes!
  14. exactly my thoughts Russ, dj's I know that dj at what I call "mainstream" events, are TOLD by the promoters that one in four records MUST include a known and worn out oldie!, why ffs!, promters dont give punters enough credit for what they are prepared to listen to, pisses me off and i wouldnt personally dj for a promoter who told me i had to play certain records!, a dj friend of my a few months ago was dj'ing and playing a nice set that was being enjoyed by myself and a dozen other soulies who i know, and going by the dance floor and general good vibe of his set, when suddenly he took off his next choice of record and quickly stuck on a so called "floor packer" as not to alienate the promoter!!,...how about promoters growing some balls and telling dj's that their sets must NOT include no more than two "bankers", "fillers" and lets see where the real dj'ing talent lies!?
  15. ?, the thread is what we "dislike"!, but as you're asking, this week i have mostly enjoyed hearing, Ronnie McCain-This time I'm gone, Jacqueline Jones-"Frown on my face", and a few that I didnt get the titles of!
  16. Most of the top 100 all time over played oldies sound shite these days thanks to the one celled dj's that play them!, frankie beverley's-if thats what you wanted, being a particular that has me cringing when i hear it!, 99.5% of R n B you hear being played makes me wanna cry , but Holly St. James is really does tip me over the edge......oh and Lou Pride etc etc etc
  17. Pat Hodges, Tomorrows Wish and Alfreda James future collectors items and highly recommended!
  18. it has to be Bloodstone-"I need your love" 59 seconds i make it!!, (youtube)
  19. what you stated was that Bournemouth will "never" have a regular all nighte for attracting masses and therefore, "Not such a bad thing", it is a bad thing for Sallie and Rod to hear that dispite their efforts, no matter what direction they take, according to you it will "Never" happen!, i hope they prove you wrong and stay with it
  20. the excuse that its not worth bothering to attend an all nighter in Bournemouth coz it's never gonna be a regular event, all the more reason to support it if its just gonna be a one off!, people reading that excuse may decide in the future not to even consider attending when even the locals feel its doomed for failure!
