https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=214&v=YDnCJuZxKOk Elaine mentioned while ago that people had been copying scenes from Northern Soul.. But I never thought it would be this obvious! Lazy video producers and media types looking for a vehicle for their sadly lacking imaginations I guess..
  4. Its such a great thing that Northern Soul is now able to sit firmly amongst the 'Broga' (an appropriation of yoga with no research behind it), Line Dancing and the over 50 Jammers. Even better its in what many believe to be the Heart of Soul, Wigan. The memories just live on and on and on: https://www.theoldcourts.com/#!classes/c1szr
  5. I now mate, i was just joining in
  6. Hey, I was only posting to celebrate this eternal soulful look and yes it is f*cking hilarious and a source of much pleasure to many of us.
  7. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2015/jun/12/mens-fashion-topman-northern-soul-new-york-punk?CMP=share_btn_fb I knew the nostalgia scene (or pseudo-subculture as its being called) would hit the high street. Off the peg, wear the soul in your pants!

Some of you will know Oscar Romp from the scene, particularly 80s-90s. He used to be in a dark corner with a light on his head drawing the dancers. Warrington, Sheffield, Bradford, Rotherham, Manchester and many other places. He managed to capture the dark and the light of those times in an often visceral way. As a dancer himself he has always created his pictures from that engaged perspective, from the inside. As well as the Northern Soul scene Oscar has been an active part of the UK Jazz Dance scene and this exhibition includes images from that as well. The venue is near Cambridge in a gallery that is a part of The Plough in Shepreth, which is a great place to have a drink, eat and listen to some vinyl (the only pub that is vinyl only that I have come across) Oscar asked me to invite you all to the preview and the poster is attached. Hope to see some of you there!
  10. Bit weak for me (vocal) and the lyrics are not up to much..
  11. I had two copies and was one of the first to out it when I djed at Soul Function in March 2014. Both gone now. Obviously should have held on to one. I let them go at £250 and £350.
  12. Ok the history on this tune. I bought it for £300 way back around 2004 ish, from a guy called Steve Smith (i may be wrong) played it on the same night I bought it and it packed the floor. I was the only DJ playing this tune anywhere, including as resident at Middleton, Piercebridge, guest at Lifeline and other venues. Then another copy was found by Mik Parry and he was playing it with me and helped break it as a consequence. I sold my copy to Flanny.
  13. Yes, i was with them that night and that was more to do with Trevor Nelsons own paranoia and not having gone far beyond London into an exclusively white environment. But, it certainly wasn't an attitude he got from people at the night. Often people forget that, certainly in Grantham my town, there were only a handful of Black families living there at that time. Tony and Virginia who I travelled to nighters with, actually found a sanctuary in nighters because it allowed them to escape the small town racism they suffered in Grantham. That means that 100% of Grantham's young Black population at the time were going to nighters. That said there are, now, a lot of racist people on the scene, they seem to have grown up, or not, into jingoistic, bigoted daily mail reading haters. And i have often heard comments that I find offensive and hateful, inspired by Britain First type media hate campaigns and a belief that they are being democratic and patriotic in voicing that.

Why is this being sold covered up at a ridiculous price? Its the Violinaires track as has been pointed out and its well known, sold two last year.
  15. Well done! A work of soulful scholarship that I am looking forward to reading. Thanks.
  16. No! This sort of dire rubbish should not get any support.
  17. Obviously some one from the Notts soul scene has stepped up to run the dance audition for this tripe...so who is it? Auditions will be held at Nottingham Lakeside Arts on Wednesday, February 25 at 6pm and Saturday, February 28 at 2pm. Auditionees can take part in either session, where they will be expected to join in a dance workshop, then sing a song of their choice for the creative team. 18. What a f--king disaster from the talentless arts world that runs this country. And, no doubt, many will grab the chance of 15 seconds of fame and embarrassment...
  19. I won some items on ebay with a reliable dealer and they were sent UPS tracked. However, they didn't arrive and the UPS tracking ended with 'Arrived in London' So, they were not tracked to the door or to sign for. My question now is, has this happened to anyone else? The dealer refunded my money, but its the records I want! Is there a procedure to follow or a UPS UK central number to follow it up? Help appreciated best Paul
